T-5/5.0 in 65 What headders do YOU run?

Guys

About to drop some coin on a set of headders. The car is a 65 Coupe with Manual steering. Replacing the 200 I-6 3-SPD with a 5.0 T-5.

All the T-5 conversion parts are comming from Modern Driveline <cable clutch conversion>. They suggested shorty headders to help with the conversion. So what I would like to know is what headder YOU used when you did your swap.

This is NOT a drag car, so Im not looking a 1 3/4" huge pipes mind you.

What clutch linkage are you planning on using? Mechanical, cable, or Hyrdraulic? That will change what headers you can use somewhat. I have a 289, Tremec 3550, with mechanical linkage and I use Hooker Competition headers- no fitment issues.

Ok my mistake, I thought I made mention of it in my first post.

Removing the stock Z bar and useing the Modern driveline Clutch cable kit.

I've got JBA mid lengths (part #1650) in my '65 with a T5 and cable clutch.

Made my own using a FOX body cable. Patterned after the piece that Mustang Steve sells.

I've been researching the same thing and still need an affordable header, search on those JBA's and ceramic coated there ~600 Ouch. Hedman make some that are 1.5 primaries 2.5 collector (I may get these 290 ceramic coated) or patriot clippster shorties which are 1 5/8, 3" (250) but these require 66 motor mounts which raise the motor so add that money. Why is it so hard to get a shorty header that'll fit 65's?

I run Doug Thorley tri-y's with a hydraulic throw out bearing. No clearance problems. Disclaimer - the car is not on the road yet. Runs though.

Interesting BUT the Modern cable travels forward of yours before it makes the turn down wards.

I paid less than $300 for my JBA's, but they're nickel. Not ceramic.

Tom,

Not sure what you mean about the cable traveling further forward before turning down or what impact that has on function. Mine drops just aft of the shock tower. It's a mile from the headers.

Can you take some pics of the headers clearance to shock tower. I was on JBA's site and in the installation notes it says 64.5-65 need the 66 mounts. You know what mounts you have? TIA

I used Flowmaster headers. Good, but ground clearance leaves a bit to be desired.....

They sound great with the Thrush mufflers.

Will do. Need some batteries at the moment.

Drivers side is the tight one. I had to dimple one tube slightly at the steering box. Shock towers are not an issue at all.

I did get the later mounts, but I was doing the 6->8 swap, and had the headers first.

HiPo cast exhaust manifolds

After having our hands on both, we couldn't justify risking the chronic leakiness of headders. Flow should be very similar. Obtained a set of new HiPo maniforlds from MustangsPlus and have no regrets to date. Had them ceramic coated (for longevity sake) and am still ahead of $600. Not likely to leak anytime soon... and any of your clutch cables should work just fine. What do y'all think of this choice?

thanks for the pics.

Anyone know if it's just the mounts(insulators) or is the frame bracket different? If I take a pic could you tell what I've got?

I did some more searching and I need the brackets and mounts which is about $160, car has the early 65 mounts

I'm definately getting shorties, had them on the 88 for 10+ years w/o a problem leaking. From what I've been able to dig up searching, the problem w/ long tubes and cable is down by the fork.
