I am replacing the bearing retainer on my t-5. In a rebuild manual, it says that you are supposed to mark the bearing retainer so that you can put in on exactly as it was taken off. I overlooked that part. Anyhow, there are slots on the bearing retainer. Do these have any significance? Does it matter which way you put the bearing retainer on?

I just bought a steel bearing retainer to do the same swap. I've looked at a few different articles that describe the swap and none of them discuss any particular alignment. From the pictures you can see where there is a notch that is used for removal and where that is with respect to the tranny case. Maybe that will help.

Did you find a need to reshim the retainer? After I bought mine, I started to get a bit nervous about changing it but the preload process seems pretty straightforward. I'll be picking up my T5 this weekend and will probably do the swap pretty soon. Did you run into any other issues or was the swap pretty simple? Good luck.
