Asking for a freind who has a customer's car.

1970 Mustang
351 Cleveland Motor (not sure if original)
T-5 trans

Problem: Massive clutch slip

Questions:

1. Can the standard bellhousing be used?
2. Is there a difference in input shaft lengths and tgransmission positions between the top-loader and T-5
3. Will the Throwout bearing hit the snout of the T-5, not allowing full clutch release?

any other ideas for the slip much appreciated.

Hope to hear from this smart crew ASAP!

thanks!

Dan

What "standard" bellhousing is being used? The T5 bellhousing will fit and have the right spacing. What is the rest of the setup? The throwout bearing, fork and clutch cable with the T5 from a Fox Mustang should work fine.

I know they are using the Mustang linkage (Z-bar, etc), not sure on the bellhousing. If they are using the cleveland bell housing, then what?

if they are using the stock top loader bell housing they need a spacer plate, also i'm fairly certain that the top loader throw out bearing won't work and i know the clutch plate itself won't work.

Unless that T5 has a GForce or an Astro kit.... its not going to live long behind a 351c. The torque is going to shred the thing...

We swapped a t5 in for a toploader. We used stock mechanical linkage, stock bellhousing, stock clutch, stock pressure plate, stock throwout bearing. The only thing we did was add the spacer plate from cal pony cars. Everything else was stock toploader stuff.

Stock cleveland bell just needs the spacer plate.

Slipping clutch could be that the mech linkage is hung up on something? What clutch are they using?

Can you give specifics on the spacer plate, and a good place and part number to order?

Many thanks for the info, as with your input the problem has been identified as needing the plate.
