On my car, with 100,000 miles, when i shift to 2nd and also 3rd sometimes it will grind, mostly when cold. Also, on down shifts in 2nd, if i dont hold the shifter it will pop out. Now, can anyone tell me what is my problem, is it teh syncros, etc?? also, i just read in a recent magazine about the g force conversion, will this fix my problem? should/could i rebuild it my self, stock and what would i need? Finally, should i just save for a tremic tko or similar? anyone who has gone through this could help that would be great!!

Yup, I did and my tranny went not to long after. It was the synchros.
G-Force is around $2200 and I went ahead and put in a Tremec and I have more confidence power shifting than I ever had.

Looks like your synchros are hosed. With your current mods in your sig you could just rebuild the T5 with FRPP components and be fine. I think D&D has a how-to video for the T5 rebuild. The G-Force is another option. Its main attribute is toughing up the T5 which is light in weight compared to all other manual tranny choices out there. If you don't care about weight too much then its a matter of how much you want to spend for how much power you are going to have some day.

yea i would say go with a Tremec cuz the T5's don't like powershifts.

Before you go spending tons of cash on a tranny, check all the basic stuff. You have an aftermarket shifter, so it's quite possible that the stops in the shifter are too far "in." When's the last time you topped off the trans fluid? I'd check that too. It's highly unlikely that trans fluid will stop grinding, but it never hurts to check.

Once you adjust the stops in the shifter and top off the trans with fluid and it still grinds, my guess would be that the 2-3 cluster's synchronizer and blocker ring are bad. The grinding is from the bad synchro or busted teeth off the gears, and the popping out is due to a bad blocker ring.

I couldn't agree more. I have a Tremec TK500 and now with my "breakin" miles done, I have been shifting like crazy. In my other stangs (stock t-5s or "world class" t-5s) I would always lift off of the throttle slightly between shifts but with the new Tremec in, the gas pedal is to the floor and not let up until I'm in 4th and done.

I also have more confidence shifting this tranny then I ever had.

I know for sure you will need a dial indicator w/ magnetic base.

If you don't race the car much, you could get away with a stock rebuild.

If you want to race a lot, get the TKO. You can get the TKO + Bellhousing for as much as the Gforce kit, and TKO is a great transmission.

There are a lot of threads on how to rebuild the T-5 in the 5.0 Tech section w/ more detail. Do a search.
