T-5 leaking...WTF?

sounds just like the t5 that came out of my car. i had the exact same problems....never found out why though. im pretty sure the input shaft seal was leaking and probably from some other places on mine. i took it to a tranny shop and they couldnt tell me what was wrong with it without pulling it out and taking it apart....so i just said screw it and bought a new trans

It is most likely leaking from the input shaft seal, which is a 5$ / 10min fix. I can't picture a t-5 leaking from anywhere esle(unless its the speedo gear).
The input shaft seal is most certainly not a 10 minute fix, it's a pain in the ass if you need to get to that seal. Now the tranny extension seal is finicky as previously said. I just did mine tonight and it really is no big deal. The only other option is the speedo gear input seal on the side. You have to look and find out where it is comeing from - no use in saying something like "my house is on fire" but never saying where you live.

BTW, hard to shift - checked your tranny fluid level lately??? :spot:

wow guys, quick responses, thanks :nice:
Its leaking from all over, the back, so its probally the tailshaft seal, but my speedometer all of a sudden stopped workin, so ill look at it, and wheres the input shaft, is that the top or front cause i think its leakin from there to...joy

u guys are great :flag:

So true! I once went through 3 tail shaft seals before I finally got the damned thing to stop leaking. I ended up having to rough up the driveshaft yoke (the part that goes into the back of the tranny) with 800 grit sandpaper the last time to make it finally stop. Not everyone agrees with that particular method but in my case it was the only thing that worked. Use as a last resort if replacing the seal (lubed with an ample amount of tranny fluid on both the seal and the shaft) doesn't work for you.

The input shaft would be the front of the tranny connected to the back of the engine (inside the bellhousing). The tailshaft is yeah - the other end connecting to the driveshaft. Seriously - check the fluid level. Only driving it more will worsen the situation even more at this point.
