Hey I crawled under my 88 GT few days ago and realized that the bottom few bolts in the bell were never installed, not the main ones that hold tranny to block but the very lowest 3 bolts that hold all the sheetmetal/spacer between engine/tranny together. I need to know what size these are, possibly they are metric? I could just tap them out to a common size but if possible I'd like to just install some bolts and forget about it until the clutch blows up or tranny fails. Anybody know what size or have a detailed blow-up of the tranny showing which bolts go where?

they are the same thread as headbolts. When I dropped my motor in, I used some headbolts to help guide the motor/tranny together when I was lowering it. It was helpful because they are longer, but the thread is the same. I suppose I could take a headbolt to work with me tomorrow and check the thread pitch/diameter. Use grade 8 btw.

Hrmm I am pretty sure they are smaller than headbolts, I was thinking that the main bellhousing to block bolts were that size, and the bottom three smaller, I will look tomorrow as I have spare headbolts around here.

Uhh...mine are missing too. I thought I lost them, but I put everything in a bag one bolt at a time. I am pretty sure they are supposed to be empty. I think I had one in there so that is all I used.

If you are talking about the small bolts that bolt the backing plate to the bottom of the bell housing, I don't have any in mine right now either. I don't think they are that important.

try a valvecover bolt, they might be the same pitch and diameter.

I just put my tranny in this weekend, so I know exactly what you're talking about. There are only 2, going from the front side of the metal plate back into the bellhousing. My car had both of them. They are pretty small, but I can't tell you what size they are. I wouldn't say they're extremely important, but they might prevent a rattle or something. Sorry I couldn't be of any help.

All they do is help to further seal the bellhousing against dirt and debris getting in there and screwing up your cluch and stuff faster than normal. Also without them in there you might get a small rattle, but you'll probably never hear the rattle if your exhaust is loud. I don't remember what size they were when I put my T-5 in cuz I just found some laying around the garage. If you want to shore it up without using the bolts just put a small bead of RTV clear between the block plate and bell and it will seal it against dirt and everything else and will be easy to take off in the future if needed.
