T-5 question

OK...my 89 gt is leaking tranny fluid. I crawled under to see where it was coming from. What is the thing going into the trans on the top drivers side? I was thinking the speedo gear?? I think thats where it is leaking from, but I am not sure. Since that is at the top of the trans. Should that gears just be able to pull out? How is it held in? Thanks

Eric

Mine leaks like a siv from the output shaft seal (where the driveshaft goes into the trans, I'd like to change it but I cant loosen the driveshaft bolts, and the fluid leaks right onto the x-pipe and smokes like crazy so now I have a nasty layer of tranny fluid on the back of my car. Not good. I need a new tranny anyways, blew third out of her a couple of weeks ago. Anybody got a T-5 for cheap?

Unrelated but hey Curse, tightened is definitely a word...
As for leaks, speedo gear, either of the two plugs (drain and fill) can be leaking if there was no sealant on the threads, where the driveshaft enters the tranny.... Also be sure its tranny fluid and nnot oil from the rear intake seal. My tranny looked like it was leaking severely but it was actually oil dripping down on the bellhousing and then being blown back onto the tranny where it dripped down everywhere. But then again my leak was so bad my check oil light would be on every 500 miles or so.

Speedo gear is on the side of the trans and has a "C" clip with bolt that holds it in. Top is a netrual safety switch.

No at the top of the trans on the drivers side the switch with two wires coming out of it is the overdrive/5th gear switch. Tells the computer that the car is in overdrive for fuel mileage and timing.

Check my sig. for your T-5 needs! thanks. :flag:
