Well the guy i bought my car from had a dyno sheet and the 302 is making about 360 lbs of TQ, have receipts saying the car has a ford motorsports T-5, i looked them up and they are rated at 330 TQ will that trans live behind that motor? The reason i ask is because it makes a wining noise sometimes, usually in 5th gear on the highway over 70mph, car has 3.73 gears to if that matters.

As long as you're not beating on it (and assuming that it wasn't abused before you got it), it should last a good long time.

Is the whining coming from the transmission or the rear end?

It seems like its coming from the trans, what options do i have for a better trans that wont kill my pockets? Could i get that one rebuilt by a local shop or would it be better to buy a stronger trans from somewhere?

Actually i just looked back over all the paperwork i have on the car, 247 HP @ 4k RPM 345 TQ @3500 RPM, car really doesn't make good power over 5k RPMs i think it needs a bigger cam

with the lack of hp and pretty good torque down low I would say yes to the cam swap

I'm gonna save up and swap the upper and lower intake, and get a good cam i hope that will give me some better power numbers, bad part is then it will put more stress on the tranny that already cant handle the motor, from what im looking up its going to cost me a lot to get a tranny to handle any power, and i drive the hell out of this car 50% of the time so i doubt this tranny will hold up very long

302 .30 over, 24# injectors, MAF conversion, 65mm throttle body, Cold Air intake in fender, Shorty headers, MSD 6AL, i just got the car, that is what i know about, no clue what pistons or cam is in the motor now, or what kind of head work was done either when it was rebuilt

Stock heads???

That's why you don't have power over 5000RPM. The heads don't breath well at that RPM.

The 24's are also slightly overkill for your combo but they are on the car now so leave em.

Would it be better to get some work done to the stock heads or get a better set? I really cant see myself spending over 1k right now for a set of aftermarket heads

Stock heads blow. At least try and find some Gt-40p's. They are failrly cheap and would offer better performance but won't cure the 5000RPM breathing limit.

You get what you pay for with heads unfortunately

You need an intake, cam, AND heads to really notice a difference. Depending on your power goals, the stock cam really isn't that bad either; the heads/intake are where you are giving up the most performance.

It's a bit of a misconception that the later t-5's 'can't handle' a h/c/i 302-306 c.i. motor. Guys that are breaking these transmissions are typically doing it powershifting at the track, launching their cars at 5,000+ rpm on sticky tires at the track, or doing the same out on the street.

You'll hear stories from people who have broken a bunch of them, and from others who just can't kill them. It doesn't cost you anything to find out, and with what you have planned, I think you will probably be safe. I would agree with the assessment that if you are going to be going with a hot stroker motor, or have plans for a supercharger/turbo setup in the future, you may as well invest in a better tranny now.
