Just a few questions as i'm putting my T-5 back together.
3-4 synchro. Which was does the chamfered edge of the outer ring face? I have two write-ups that show the chamfered edge toward the input shaft, but the TTC-Tremec manual is not really clear on it and from the pictures it looks like it faces the rear of the tranny. Which is it?
Also, there was an issue with grinding into 2nd with this tranny. I inspected 2nd gear and the 1/2 synchro and found there to be a lot of damage where the teeth interlock. The previous owner told me he "hurt" the tranny when he meant to shift from 3-4 at WOT and went back into 2nd gear. The damage would appear as if it was caused by high speed. Also, when he did this he damaged the mainshaft where it interlocks with the input shaft. (have a new one on the way)
Anyway i'm prob going to replace 2nd gear , but i'm hesitant on the 1-2 synchro/reverse ring. There is a little rounding of the grooves but nowhere as bad as the 2nd gear's interlocking teeth are. SHould i replace this part? If i were to look for a good used one are they the same on all T-5's 85-93 V8 and 2.3L??
