After much deliberation I've decided to stay with my stock mechanical linkage for my T-5 swap. Cost was the primary reason although I don't think a hyd system will work w/ my booster setup and I don't like the look of the cable system under the hood.

The guy that will be doing the conversion for me, and has done a number of conversions and is also exclusively a Ford mechanic, told me that I would need to use my early toploader bellhousing w/ and adapter plate in order to keep the z-bar linkage.

The guys at Modern Driveline have told me that I can use a late model T-5 bellhousing w/ a fulcrum adapter and keep the z-bar linkage.

Not a huge deal either way but I would rather use a late model bell, which I have, and sell my toploader w/ bellhousing and shifter complete.

Anybody have experience w/ doing a conversion and keeping the mechanical linkage?

When I put my T5 in I used the toploader bellhousing original z bar and adapter plate to the T5. I would think the fulcrum adapter would be fine, the only other thing I would check. What is the depth of the T5 bell housing, because with the adapter plate it moves the trans back approx 3/4 " which meant I did not have to modify my driveshaft, and the shifter came up through the original hole in the floor

When I first did my T-5 swap, I used the T-5 bellhousing and the fulcrum/spacer. I made a template out of the stock bellhousing and use it for a reference to redrill the new holes on the T-5 bellhousing. It worked fine, but I wound up going to a cable anyway.

If you want my old pieces, I'll sell them to you for a super reasonable price. I'll try to find them for you later this morning.

I used an 85 syle bell housing, stock linkage and the fulcrum spacer on the fork pivot. Its prettyy straight forward and has worked flawlesly.

Oh I think you cut off the place on the bell housing where the cable went. Was long ago and not as clear as when I was doing it
