T-5 swap speedo gear question

Hey, I'm gonna do the A4LD to T-5 swap soon. I'm gathering all the parts together, but I had a question. I've got a 93 4 cylinder with the 3.73 rear end. Do I need to change the speedo gear when I install my t-5 or use my old one? I think I heard the manual rear ends had 3.55s. Also, if I need a different one, does anyone know the number of teeth on the drive gear of the A4LD and the T-5s? Need to figure out what driven gear I need to get if different. Thanx!

The manual cars had 3.45 rears. Most T5's have the 7 tooth drive gear but there's a 6 tooth gear found in some. You'll need the tag number off your T5 to determine the speedo drive gear tooth count.

After that, its just a matter of some simple math to figure out the driven gear tooth count.

The driven gears are different between the auto and the 5spd. Stinger says he just cut the extra length of the tip off of the automatic gear and used it in his T5, though I don't remember how accurate his speedo was.

The tag on my tranny is 1352209. Is there somewhere I can find out the gear by way of that? I think I saw that the color could indicate the teeth too, which i know is yellow. 7 sound right for that?

Yea, I remember reading abt grinding the gear in Stinger's article, but I want to get as close as I can to accurate, and it doesn't specify whether how much it'd be off, or if it would be.

Now if you really want to change the internal drive gear of your manual tranny you can match it according to the table below. Be aware that the 6 tooth will offer the most combos for numerically higher gear ratios and offer the greatest degree of accuracy. The 6 tooth gear selection table for a manual tranny is the first in the page.

Your list says "Not found in OEM applications" under 6 tooth drive gear. Everything I've got on BW T5's says the following:

BW 1352-114 (85-86 TC) 6 tooth drive gear
BW 1352-116 (85-86 SVO) 6 tooth drive gear.

1352-115 was an aftermarket trans, but it also had a 6 tooth gear.
