How difficult is it to to perform the swap using tremec t-56, I seen some kits(D&D perfromance, www.bieberfever.com) From www.bieberfever.com $2800 you get ___79-93 T-5 to T-56 swap kit consists of Tremec T-56 (1386-000-012), aluminum bell, drive shaft with 31 spline slip yoke, HPM crossmember, mount, reverse lock out harness and 6 speed shift knob.Options: 1.)Pro 5.0 or Steeda shifter $169 2.)McLeod Steel SFI bell w/extended fork $300 *Notes* 1.)Uses ATF Dexron III only fluid 2.)Crossmember is a bolt in 3.)stock fork, clutch, clutch cable, and flywheel work fine 4.)Uses existing pivot ball in your used bellhousing
Is this a good kit, I read up on the t-56's and they handle up to 450ft lbs TQ..with my setup I should have around 500, will that work? Will the shifter line up to the stock shifter Hole on the car? Is there a better KIT? Will I need to use a G-force gear upgrade kit to handle the 500 TQ my car will put out? Somone explain How the AMP swap kit works?

if you get any of those kits get the D&D kit. and that tranny is WAY under rated. it can handle alot more than 450 ft lbs. and no you will not need the upgrade.

I just put my t56 in like last month. It wasn't hard at all just like put a t-5 back in. If you go with the D&D I know the shifter is in the right location. The trans is a little close to my floor pan though. I waited till after I put it in to plug the pigtail into the reverse lockout, made it almost impossible to reach. If you do it make sure you hook that up first.

have any of you seen decent mileage with the car in 6th gear, or does it not make any apreciable difference?

The overdrive in the t-56's 6th gear has a .62 gear, which is virtually the same as the stock t-5's 5th gear of .63. You technically may lose mpg...but you shouldn't notice either way. You get more strength and something different

The t-56 weighs more and has a bit more drag.

The t-56 does hold more power and is underrated as stated...no need for an 'extra' upgrade on the gears by G-Force.
