T-5 yoke questions.

I have the original T-5 yoke that came off the driveshaft of my '94 donor car. I have come to find out that the yoke is too wide to fit on my '65s driveshaft.
Tell me how you guys put the T-5 yoke on your stock driveshaft. Would I need a special wide U-joint?

I also read about some people saying I needed to shorten the driveshaft, but have come to find out that I won't. Even with the C-4 yoke (2inches longer than the T-5 yoke) the driveshaft will fit with the yoke stuffed all the way in. So with the T-5, it should be just about perfect.

So what do I do about the yoke?

Ok, I may have figured out what I am going to do. Turns out the C-4 yoke and the T-5 toke are both 28-spline. So, I can just keep my C-4 yoke and I will have my driveshaft shortened 1.5" and balanced. Sound like it should work?

I took my D/S to a D/S place and they had the correct universal joint in stock. They pressed it in for no extra charge. Be careful about the D/S length. If the yoke is too far in it will bottom against the tailshaft of the T5. If that happens, the least you can expect is a torn seal. You don't want the yoke stuffed all the way in so that you allow for travel as your rear suspension travels and the geometry changes. For example, when the rear of the car drops relative to the axle because you hit a bump, etc. the yoke will go further into the trans.

thats what I did

I re-used my toploader yoke. I had my driveshaft shortened 3/4", but take measurements. You want the yoke to be able to go into the tranny about 1 inch with the car sitting on the wheels (1" between yoke shoulders and the tranny tailshaft).

I reused my c-4 driveshaft and yoke when installing the T-5. I shortened it so that the yoke wear mark was in the same place as with the c-4, basically so it went into the tailshaft the same.

Are there any ill effects to cutting down the yoke? It will get rid of the little "cone" type of ending it has.
If I could cut the yoke to get rid of all the shaft that has no splines in it, I probably wouldn't have to shorten the driveshaft.

Yoke

Cutting the length of the yoke that slides into the T5 will have no effect on having to shorten the length of the driveshaft. It only affects the T5s ability to drain fluid properly.

I have heard of no ill effect of cutting the yoke. Just bevel and smooth the end so you don't damage the tail shaft bushing when inserting the yoke.

You still need to make sure you have around an 1-1/2" of play from the shoulder of the yoke to the tranny.
