T-lok

Do you think there would be any poblems if I only install a T-lok on my car? I don't want gears (too much to go wrong, no warranties, speed cal., and so on...). I still would like both my wheels to turn. Anybody got something against this? (If so, why?)

get the gears dude, you need them. no problems, a chip will correct your offset in speed, but with 3.73's is only off by like 6mph at 65mph

Thanks for the reply, but what I meant to ask if the t-lok is going to give me any problems. The car is driven in all kinds of weather.

It helps in rain, but I dunno about snow.....some say it does, but I say it kinda hurts in the snow cause of the severe lack of traction despite both tires gettin power. Anyhoo, it won't hurt anything.

a chip will do nothing to correct the speedo in his 98 as the speedo pickup is gear driven. chips only work on 99+ 3.8`s for speedo calibration and a chip will not make the speedo be off with the gears. 94-98`s however will be off 5-8mph as the 23 tooth gear used for the 3.73`s is really for 3.45/3.55 gears but is used for the 3.73`s and 4.10`s. it will register faster than you are really going

believe me get the 3.73`s and the T-lok they are well worth it but if you don`t want the gears the T-lok is a worthwhile addition to your car. it won`t cause any problems and will help in the snow. the addition of 3.73`s,T-lok and good winter tires made my car go really good in the snow. when it had the stock differential and 2.73`s it wouldn`t climb any hill in the snow. the 3.73`s really don`t hurt gas milage much. i got 26.5 mpg on a trip from pittsburgh to naples florida last summer my car is procharged too so your car should do alittle better. you will need a 23 tooth speedo gear to calibrate your speedo if you go to 3.73`s. steeda autosports has them for about $15.00. the best price ive found on a T-lok is from www.gefracing.com at $169.00 go to their ford racing online catalog and 3.8 parts you will find the T-lok there

a good tranny shop can put the T-lok in for about $200 or less and gears and T-lok for $350 or less.

get the T-lok at least you will like it

Whether you just install a T-lok or gears, and T-lok, it is going to cost you roughly the same amount of money. The ring gear has to be attached to the T-lok, and then there's all the back lash and other aligments that need to take place. You shouldn't be charged an extra $150 for a gear install with a T-lok.

I got just a t-lok in my car and kept my stock 3.27 gear ratio. I kind of wish that I had gone with the gears and a chip(mines 99+) because I would be willing to sacrifice the 1 or 2 mpg for the better acceleration with the gears. Still I am very happy with the T-lok and if you really want to keep your stock gears a t-lok will work fine and it will help you get traction in the rain or snow. The only thing to be careful of is if both tires don't have good traction your rear end will start moving to one side and it could make you spin out if your not careful.
