is probably how much longer the t5 in my car is gonna last.
Its a Non-World Class T5. Now, I see that rebuild kits are fairly cheap for them and thats what I plan to do. But here's my question. The trans itself is an 83, and I know that the WC T5s are stronger.. Is it possible to "make" a WC 5speed with the case that I have? I don't see why I couldn't say the proper kit was bought and the gears to match. Correct me if I'm wrong. I know gears are a bit pricey so to speak. Even with buying a new gearset and rebuild kit it would still be cheaper than buying a used WC and then having a well potentially wore out WC trans. Tremec is near out of the question too, at least at this point in time. Anyway.. thanks

for just a few more hundred bucks you could build yourself a gforce t5 and get 600 ft lbs of torque rating out of it. even stock WC gearsets are pricey, then there's shafts, the rebuild kit, etc.

Ipriced out a G-force build and it was going to be in excess of $1500 for the all out kit plus upgraded cluster gear, plus you need someone to build it for you (well at least I did) There are pluses and minuses to the G-force or TKO trannies. G-force is lighter and you can use all you existing pieces (shifter, bellhousing, and driveshaft to name a few. The benefits of the TKO is that you get a true performance transmission, not one that has been modified to handle the power.

The g-force did end up being cheaper to do by about $300, but if you are thinking of doing an upgrade to a TKO and your current T-5 is still in good shape you could sell it and make up the difference and then some.

By the way a standard T-5 rates at 300ft lbs, a WC T-5 rates at 315ft lbs and the T-5Z rates at 330ft lbs. There is not a lot of diffrence there.

The WC T-5 has a 2.95 first gear that improves the torque rating, The T-5Z has several improved internals and also has the 3.35 first gear. All have either a .63 or .68 fifth gear

The G-Force Kit has a 2.95 first and an optional High .54? fifth gear for good highway driving

you're pretty wrong on those figures gabrielles, you need to get the right info before dishing it out to people like that.

standard t5 is a 4 cyl and older v8 tranny (pre-85) and was rated at 245 ft lbs.

WC t5 is the v8 t5 from 85-93 and was rated at 265 ft lbs from 85-89 and then 300 ft lbs from 90-93

the z spec or 93 cobra t5 is rated anywhere from 310 to 335+ ft lbs, depending on where you get that info from, and also the year of the tranny.

non-wc t5's had like a 3.93 first gear or something high like that, all other wc t5's had 3.35 first gear.

the ratings are not exact, and there have been many exceptions telling otherwise. it's my personal opinion though that the earlier WC t5's and the 90-93 WC t5's are about the same in strength and tolerance, and the z spec or cobra's can handle a bit more power (not much more abuse though)

and of course, drive it like a granny and it'll love you long time
