i put an offroad h pipe and flowmaster 40s on my stock 87- 88 leftover t top mustang! i bought the car on my 16th birthday. I have had the car for 2 years and never really had a problem. I changed the starter and spark plugs and spark plug wires and cap and rotor! I put an off road h pipe on it and now when it is idleing it starts surging between 650 and 1100 rpms i thought it might be a hole in the vacum hoses but i found nothing... i changed the timing and the car started backfiring so i changed the timing back and it ran better but when i start the car it starts surging in a few minutes... and now its still making a poping sound when the rpms are coming down or if i down **** and then it backfires... the old man says he dosent know... i have tried everything!!! my firends dad said it might be a computer problem??!! idk any help would be awesome!!

So what year is it? 87 or 88? You told us what kind of roof it had, but we need more info on the car.

5-spd car? Still stock speed density or has it been converted to Mass Air??

Have you run the check engine codes on it yet to see what the car doesn't like? That's the first thing I would do.

yes 5 speed...its titled as an 88 but when i got some new parts the year 88 didnt fit and i had to go back and get the parts for an 87...(brakes, alternator .. and some other little stuff) and it is still speed density.
