T-Top guys...do you have subwoofers?

Here's my issue...I want a single 12" sub. Nothing fancy..just some added bass. However, w/ the T-Tops I can't have a traditional trunk box because there'd be no place to put the tops when I took them out (yes, I put them IN the bags and tie them down in the trunk). At one point, I built a box to go in the very rear passenger side corner that is JUST big enough for a 12. The problem is, w/ the cargo cover pulled down, the speaker would touch it. and the rattling and fart noises would commence.

So I'm thinking about something IN the spare tire well...when I say IN I mean below the carpet, below the pressboard....absolutely hidden. Is this even possible? would it sound like crap? I just don't know enough about it.

You could TRY a "truck" specific subwoofer. I know Diamond used to make them. They have shorter excursion, and a shallower magnet, but I don't know if you could make a box small enough to fit in there.

That give you an idea of what I mean. You'd still have to find a place to mount the amp, etc., and you STILL might get rattling with the cover.

i've seen a pic of a guy who had put a couple subs in the spare tire sump...he built a roundbox that was the height that the sump is deep, laid the carpet back down, cut two holes in the carpet for the subs and laid the two 10's in it. It looked really professional and good so to answer your question, yes, you just gotta use your imagination. i have the pic of that car on my computer at home, but i'm at work. i'll try to get it to you tonight.

Sounds awesome.What i did is i lined the spare tire well with aluminum foil ( like a mold release) then i cut out a piece of wood for the front were it meets the amps. I positioned it where i wanted it to have room for the equipment then i started laying down fiberglass and resin for the enclosure. once the basic bottom was made i started layering it up for strength. once the bottom was finished i made the plate the woofer is mounted to out of MDF and fiberglassed the two pieces together and made sure it was all sealed up and carpeted it.

I got a better idea for yah. My neighbor has a 1985 mustang gt with ttops. Its a real clean sharp ride. Hes got 2 10's in his. He had somebody build him a professional box that allows the ttops to slide underneath his box. Like Build a normal box, just put 2 legs on the ends of the box and slide the ttops under the box. ive seen his design and it looks really good. Doesnt stick above his seats either or look like a hack job. Just an idea for yah

The problem with that is that the subwoofers are exposed to the sun. The foam material used in the cone (and the part that connects the cone to the structure) fade and rot from sunlight (mainly UV) exposure.

I have a Sunroof Car and have been trying to figure some sort of design that will allow me to keep my Spare Tire and still put the Sunroof in the Bag.

Here is what I did. I found a sub that would allow me to build the box in the dimensions needed, while still allowing me to put the roof in the hatch area.

If you find a sub that does not need a huge box, then you should be alright.

Depends on how much bass you want as well. Is a 12 really needed. I have 1 10" in my car in a smaller box with the amp attached to the side of the box. It sounds great. Iv'e had others with 2 10's and it sounded very close. Then again I dont want to rattle the freak'n panels off the car just want it to bump. And it does. My pull over cover fits perfect over top of it.
Now for the specific topic, I had the same type in the back of my 86GT with t-tops, but instead of the 10" it was an 8". Of course didn't have as much bump but it was clear and still sounded good and the t-tops would easly slide under the carpet under the box. I dont think there would of been an issue with having the same box I have now in the 86, but I no longer have the 86 to try. I will snap a pic later and post it if ya like. I figured that way I would still keep a spare. A full size spare to be exact. I used a 14" steel wheel off another Mustang and it fit.

That's exactly what you have to do...buy a sub that won't need a massive amount of volume in a box. It probably won't be crazy loud (it will still sound good; you aren't looking to win sound competitions), but it will fit.

Well crap....now its time for me to learn how to fiberglass.... because thats the EXACT setup I'm looking for. Thx dude.
