Like we need another T5 thread right :D. I had my T5 rebuilt last fall by a local shop who I thought used had a pretty good rep. I pulled it myself and dropped it off. I put in a new king cobra clutch, rear main, etc. Well I posted along time ago about leaks coming from it but the car was going away for winter storage. I called him about it and he said bring it to him in the spring time and kept in touch with him over the winter, etc.

I brought the car to him this spring he had it for a few days and called me and said it was ready, drove it home and the tail shaft/tranny mount was wet. I called him right away and brought it back..same deal but this time the ripped my lower boot and did a half azzed install(looks like they took my brand new cross memeber and threw it around the shop). The freaken thing still leaks. I finally fixed one of them, they used a non ford rear tail shaft seal, the rubber was shorter and didn't go far up the yoke on the drive shaft. I used a oem ford one when I did my ford racing drive shaft and now it's fine.

The other leak seems to be coming from where the 2 halves of the cases meet, i have dripping coming from the bottom of the case.I cleaned the case and used some gasket sealer and spread some on the out side to try and seal it and I thought it was alright but nope and the 2 lower bolts look like they drips coming off them too but I can't get them any tighter. I thought about pulling them out and using some sealer on them and putting them back in .

The other issue is the tranny doesn't feel right to me, It's a pain to get in reverese even when I try going in 1st or 5th first and sometimes pops out and the shifts are very notchy not smooth. i'm just not trusting this rebuild after going through this. Oh yeah I think I have about 500 to 800 miles on it if I'm lucky.

I'm looking for advice, should I try to reseal the bolts maybe, pull it and have some else try it or give up on this T5 becuase I'm nervouse this shop f'ed it up, I paid $400 for the job which might be high.I have looked at Astro Performance at there T5 rebuilds they have a 450hp rated one for $900, Pro Motion has a heavy duty T5 for about the same or cobra T5 for $100 less or should I go brand new with the Ford racing T-5Z? G-force would be nice but I don't want to change to a 26 spline clutch and I only have minor mods for now.

I have card board down on my garage floor from this damn T5 this sucks!!! I want to throw this thing through his shop window :notnice:.

your first and fifth pop out sounds like th front stop on your short throw shifter is to tight. you should be able to put it in first and still have a little free air space between the handle and the stop. also when you assemble a t5, it is very difficult to get the tail housing mounted to the case due to a alignment rod that holds a fork for fifth gear. it is tricky to get into place and you usually lose half your rtv. i have had that leak too. you just need two take it in, tell them specifically you want the tail housing taken off, cleaned, and resealed. the shifter you can adjust on your own.
good luck bro!

I have adjusted the stops on the shifter, but I'll check it again. I'll go and talk to the manager but I'm wondering how hard is it to get the tail shaft housing off? I did all the motor work myself and pulled the tranny myself already. I thinking at this point if it's not to bad I should do it and reseal it, I just wasn't going to rebuild it that was beyond me.

I did a search on here and corral on taking the tail shaft housing off, I'm going to give a buddy of mine a call and see if he will give me a hand, I think I'm going to do it myself and take my time. I'll post an update down the road with results. thanks for the advice guys but I don't trust the other shop after talking with him today, they are members of bbb I'll file a complaint maybe. I took pics of some of the chewed bolt heads( I can still get them out but I'm going to have to replace them) on the bell housing and the cross member although today he said he would repay for a new one we shall see . I'll try royal purple atx fluid this time unless you guys now of a better fluid to try in there, I think they use some basic stuff. thanks again.
