T5 Bearing Retainers - are they one piece or two pieces?

My clutch throwout bearing just went out and was completely annihilated.

When the trans was pulled I noticed that the bearing sleeve portion could spin while the cast piece remains bolted to the trans. Is this normal? Should this be fixed with a new retainer?

If I understand you correctly I had a similar potential problem. The bearing that the throwoutbearing rides on could be pulled out of the transmission while it's housing (4 bolts) remained there. So I just put loctite on it and it has stayed in there the last 3-4k miles or so...

5sp, Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure I followed you...but I'll add some more info to hopefully help.

The T5 Bearing Retainer and sleeve (the one a lot of folks replace with the Steel retainer) should the sleeve be able to rotate inside the cast piece?

Mine currently is doing this, but I'm wondering if this happened because the throwout bearing caused it to separate from the cast piece.

It's still bolted to the input side of the trans, was hoping to have the car back on the road tomorrow.

I'm glad you asked the question...I'm pretty sure it shouldn't rotate but I was just stating mine is/was doing the same thing yours is.

The piece that came off on mine is the bearing that the throwout bearing rides on. When removed it just looks like a hollow 6-8 inch pipe which is what mine was. I stuck it back in the "cast piece" that is bolted to the tranny and put loctite in there to keep it their. Sorry I'm so confusing

It should not rotate. I would replace the retainer to be on the safe side.
