t5 issue when replacing rear bushing and rear seal

ok so i replaced the tail shaft seal and bushing i put the tail houssing back on and it seated fine. then i forgot to put the spring,ball and shifter back on so i pulled the housing back off and tried to reinstall it again it wouldnt seat all the way now.so i pulled the tail housing off again and the shift rod feels limp.i broke open the case and the trans appears to be stuck in 5th gear any suggestions?

I am guessing you probably jammed it into 5th when you button it up the first time. might just need a little elbow grease to get it unstuck. There are peeps on here who have rebuilt that can tell you better. good luck though.

i think what happened was i shifted it from 5th to reverse and that caused my problem

you'll need to me a little more specific on that.

did you do that while it was rolling down the road? or while the tailshaft was off? ..... or......
