T5 rebuild?

No need to take the console out. All you need to do is take the shifter plate off, and either file or dremel some clearance into the panel underneath to make it easier to reach the front shifter bolts.

Shifter bolts or the rubber gasket? My buddy just takes the two bolts on the shifter handle off..

Because I don't like taking a Mercon bath when it's time to put the driveshaft in, and I don't always have the luxury of having the car tilted far enough forward to keep that from happening.

that one i can understand... i got a bath in it once when i was changing the valve body is a guys lightning. ford in all there wisdom didnt put a drain plug on the pan of the 2wd 4R100's so you got to do the unbolt a corner and drain some then try and drop a pan full of fluid... i lost.

Yeah the 4r70w has no drain plug in the pan either.. I over filled one by accident and had to crack the pan to let some out very slowly.. That was a pain in the ass.

Wow...you guys are totally getting hung up on that 1 hour thing. My very next sentence actually told him to pay the $800 since I thought he might not have the means to do the job himself

In the early days of the E40D (4R100's predecessor) they had a drain plug. But I guess too many people kept stripping them out so Ford did away with them. But, take all the pan bolts out except for the back 3 and let the whole pan tilt down, then slowly loosen the back 3 to let the pan tilt even farther. Then once you're almost to the end of the bolts just push the pan back up then take out the last three bolts. You end up with maybe 2 quarts in the bottom of the pan. And as you know, 2 quarts in a 4R100 pan isn't much.

What we do at my shop is we have a small container with nipples on both sides at the top with hoses coming out of them. Shove one down the dipstick tube and the other you take the brake booster hose off and use the engine vacuum to suck out the trans fluid. Real simple set up

Yea... The 4wd pan had a plug on it. The 2wd on the other hand didn't. Most guys swapped the pans out so I just started punching holes with a punch. Made things easier
