I've got an 88 gt car with a wc t5 in it. well it locked up this weekend and only thing i can find (that i can afford) is a t5 out of an 87 thunderbird 4cyl. car with a turbo. will this work with my 5.0? everything looks the same from the outside anyway.

I would keep searching for a 89 up T5 from a V8 car, I would hate for you to wind up spending more money down the road. The 4cyl trannies just are not the bestt choice out there. The main thing is they are a little weaker due to the gear ratio's when paired with the V8. If you do go with this tranny be advised that you need to change the pilot bearing, I read something about the Thinderbird turbo coupe's T5 vs a 4cyl mustangs T5.. The turbo coupe's T5 have a larger dia. front bearing and require a specific retainer, you would have to search more on this or maybe someone on here could shed some more light on it. My advise is just try and get a V8 T5 and save yourself the headaches of a 4cyl T5. Best of luck.

I just did this myself and my $$ went right here,
Astroperformance.com - Your Manual Drivetrain Specialist
greatest guy to talk too and service is unreal, yes you have to front a core charge but you get it back. For $765 you will get a great tranny that he will stand behind, I just got mine new T5 from astro ( super high alloy ) and it's an awsome tranny, shifts nice ( still in the break in period though). This is the way I would go, great service and piece of mind, probally the last T5 you will have to buy ( unless you are an animal ). research your local guys before you buy, I wouldn't pay alot . look at astro's prices and go from there.
