ok i have a dilema i have a 2001 mustang gt with a built bottom end....i have a vortech v2 sq that was just freshly rebuilt due to overheating of the head unit (don't know how it happened) and a zex nitrous kit....my question to you is what would you do if you were in my position....go with a t76 turbo and custom fab the piping and everything or keep with the vortech/nitrous approach...

If you want to, and have the time/money/resources go turbo all the way and never look back.

Thats just MY opinion though.

It would be much cheaper and easier to keep your Vortech and spray it.

It's all about what you want to do, but holy crap turbo's are a blast.

well i have a vortech aftercooled kit so i think i could get a pretty good amount of money back off of the supercharger kit and then sell the zex wet kit and have close to 3000 to play around with...i could buy a nice new turbo for about 1000 and then i would have to find piping somewhere...i'm not gonna buy a turbo kit from hellion or something bc they are expensive i'm trying to find out if there is anyone out there that has pieced together a DIY kit....or where i can find the piping only for the turbo

Pony Down sells an affordable kit, don't think many people have them though.

If it were my ride, I'd stick with the blower and the spray. You're already 3/4 of the way there, it would be kind of silly to start over now.

Not to mention blower + spray will own just the turbo alone....at least one that falls within the same price range.

Either one is going to require you to upgrade your entire fuel system.

well i had to rebuild my supercharger due to overheating of the head unit and i don't want that to be a regular occurance...if i do stick with the blower/nitrous id upgrade to an 8 rib kit and pulley down and put a 125 zex wet shot on it

also upgrading the fuel system as i went but from reading posts, everybody seems to have bad things to say about vortech and it's kinda pissing me off and making me think twice about my decision to go vortech

+1 i think the setup you have is beast. 2 power adders is pimp. I think your plan of the 8 rib kit with smaller pulley and 125 shot is bada$$. Don't let what others say sway you opinion.

Just run it and see how it holds up. If it squeeks, then have it upgrade it to a T-Trim and call it a day. Then you can feel free to spin it hard and worry free?

Besides, an S-Trim + 125 shot would easily bring you into the 550-600hp teritory without having to push the blower out of its efficiency range. Remember, that nitrous doubles as an intercooler when added to boost. As a result, small nitrous hits often act much bigger when combined. Not to mention your torque curve is going to fast and hard and will also be much broader than a Turbo set up alone.

Get bored with the S-Trim and upgrade it to a T-Trim later on and make even more power still.

You'll spend a lot less money and make a lot more usable power sticking with the blower + nitrous than you will starting over with a Turbo set up....that is a fact!

It looks allright to me, if I had the money I would buy it, but that is me.

Gearbanger is right about it being more cost effective and the benefit of nitrous when used with a supercharged (or turbo) application.

Not only does it cool the charge, but you can also spray before your boost comes on fully since you have a centri blower. That eliminates any lag time before it spins up high enough to really bring it on, plus provides a cooler intake charge. You really can't lose in that scenario.

As far as your Vortech overheating, are you sure everything is on-par with your oiling system for the blower? If it isn't getting sufficient oil, or a line is clogged partially that would explain it. Alot of people use, and are satisfied with Vortech blowers.

I like the turbo set up since no one really has one, and while i was reading the thread, someone mentioned that pony down sells a kit. it looks legit, but, i dunno if it is just my eyes, or does the piping for this hang really low to the floor.

It certainly doesn't look very speed bump friendly. I would be leery about running it on a lowered stang, that's for certain.

Yeah the pipes do hang low, it is designed to clear the stock K member on a non-lowered car... but the price is really appealing.

Wouldn't do so well on a lowered car though.

well the built bottom end i have has a compression of 8.5:1 so i'll have to push more boost just to make more power...i was thinking about putting a 2.75 RR pulley on the supercharger and call it a day which would probably see about 15-16 psi on my S trim. would the S trim hold that easily?....what do ya'll think added w/ the new fuel system and 125 shot....ya'll think i would be better off with that situation rather than doing a 360 and going turbo?

I responded to your pm but in all honesty I would stay with the blower. Getting a turbo is an expensive deal to do it right. Headers, new k-member, wastegate, turbo timer, ect, ect. I love my T-Trim and I'm seriously looking at a 50-75shot on my car for next year (10'). I was running a 2.6 pulley on my SQ-Trim with out a problem but was only seeing like 12psi of boost but it came on like instantly. My T-Trim is pretty potent now and hits about 12 instantly and build to 15psi.

I have thought about switching over to a turbo numerous times but like you I have a great setup as it is. If it aint broke why fix it. The only thing a turbo COULD do is cause problems. Something like nitrous is an extra and is it isn’t working right with the car all you have to do is not use it. The same can’t be said about a turbo. Now don’t get me wrong I am by no means hating on turbos because all you have to do is look at hotmustang’s old GT and see the amazing potential but he also started out with a turbo and wasn’t out the money on a supercharger.

well i had a problem with the blower overheating...i have never heard anyone w/ problems with the hellion kit..i'm really trying to decde....when my buddy had the bottom end that is in my car now, he was on 12 psi w/ a s trim and a 180 shot and only put down 481/535 which is really low which kinda makes me distraught bc i'm only gonna put a 125 on it if keep the blower....come on guys more opinions!!!
