I know this has been beat over the the head a million times but can someone direct me to a site or something that has good instructions for a tach install. Also what do you guyz use splice the tach wires the wires under the dash. I hear theres a better way than cutting and using electrical tape...Gimme some ideas...Also I have a chiltons guide so I can prolly find the right wires to splice into from the wiring diagrams in there. Just point me in the right direction here I have to have my car running in a week to go to gingerman so I dont want to screw up any electrical stuff or end up going with some non-functioning gauges.

I believe you can wire the tach into the wires for the coil. That's how I did my shift-light. Really the only wire that needs to go somewhere specific is the lead wire. The power wire can go to any key-hot source, and the ground wire is pretty self-explanatory as well.

FWIW, I wired my shift-light to the coil harness. I don't remember which wire the lead goes to, I think it's brown, but it's been a while. The power wire I also spliced into a key-hot wire on the coil harness, and the ground wire I attached to the coil bracket with a nut and bolt. :nice:

Like I said, I think tachs and shift-lights are the same, but don't quote me on that. :p

I plugged my tach into my MSD tach port, hooked my tach into my headlight fuse under the dash for the light, I hooked the ground wire to a grounded portion under the dash, and I think there was two more wires but I forget where I hooked those. I simply followed the directions that came with my tach. You'll also need to think where to mount the tach. I recommend this bracket from UPR

I had my tach on my dash clock until it broke. Now I use this bracket and the tach is in the perfect position.

just pop the cluster out, and tap into the wirre for the stock tach.....im not sure which one it is as i did mine a long time ago, but i THINk its the brown wire with the tan stripe, or vise versa...it says it on the instructions that come with the tach (well autometers do at least).....

Robin, this is how I did dave's tack with the red 4v. When you look at the back of the cluster it looks like a motherboard. Follow the line to the connector. And I think stprorolla49 is right on the color.

I tapped into the line using folding crimp connector. Requires no stripping on any of the wires. Just fold it over the signal wire and the new wire to the new tack. And Bite down on the connector with a plyers. Done.
