So I took the two front bolts off that connect it to the K-member and tried to pry it off, I noticed there is something on the drivers side that seems to go towards the engine, along with lines that run along the steering shaft that wont allow it to come off. I dont want to pull any harder because Im afraid I might damage something, is there anythingbesides the two bolts that hold it in place. Please help, need to get it off by tomorrow so I can continue with my k-member, a-arm and long tube install.

you got the 2 rack mount bolts. you also need to un-bolt the intermediate shaft(its the one you see going toward the engine.) the bolt will come out and then you can slide the shaft off of the rack input shaft.( just remember to lock you steering wheel before you pull the intermediate shaft off. otherwise you can damage the clock spring if the steering wheel moves.) you will also have some Power steering lines you will have to unbolt. Power steering fluid will go everywhere. dont worry just remember to add the Mercon 5 to the resivour when done. just remember to check for leaks when your done. low fluid level will produce a whine and can result in a damaged power steering system.

I'm not trying to come across as a smart ass or anything but it seems to me it will take a ton more mechanical expertise to remove and replace a K member and headers than it does to remove the steering rack.

Are you sure you're ready for this?

blah

Whats so hard about, take off a few bolts, slap off some metal, slap some on, and you've got yourself a k-member. Nothing expertise about it, as long you know what to take off, I obviously didn t know enough about a steering shaft, does that mean I can't learn as I go along?

No offense meant. Sorry if it came across that way.

If someone jacked their car up and removed the bolts for the K member, they would be holding up the engine with their chest. You must admit, the description above is a bit simplified.

The average backyard spark plug changer wouldn't attempt to remove a K member.

Again, didn't mean to offend and good luck with the project.

Lmao it's not that easy. If you wanna do it right you have to level the car, then square the K-member with the frame rails at the rear of the car - otherwise the whole front end will be pointing a slightly different direction than the rear, which will make it harder for the alignment tech to fix and get everything even (and also screwing up handling characteristics being asymmetrical).

And what's a steering shack? Is that like shaft and rack put together, or like Caddy Shack? http://www.maximummotorsports.com/content/install/pdf/front_susp/MMKM-2r8.pdf that's the best install guide for a K-member you're gonna get IMO...

Like stated above, there is a bolt hold the steering shaft onto the rack. It should be a 13mm bolt, ones that is off disconnect the shaft from the rack. You should now be able to pry the rack off the two "nipples" on the k-member.

And you dont need to disconnect ANY power steering lines unless you are replacing some of your p/s components. You dont need to disconnect them for a k-member install..

yeah once you get the rack loose zip tie it to your sway bar and you will be golden.. when i did mine i also zip tied a broomstick to the rack and all across to the tie rod ends to hold them straight out (my dad said that you can ruien em if you let the steering shafts hang.. but i'm not sure if its true, it only takes a min.)
