Taking the air silencer off my kenne bell stang

I bought my car with the 6 pound kenne bell kit on it about a month ago...still debating on if its safe to take the air silencer off the airbox...What do you guys think? Kenne Bell makes a big deal about keeping your stock intake and only upgrading it to there cold air kit but I cant see taking the air silencer off making hurting anything cause its still closed and sucking air from the fenderwall and not the engine area. Just want some feedback from you guys. I am sure it would def help performance I dont know why the guy before me never took it out...I am planing on going with the kenne bell cold air intake system in the future but for now I figure I should take the silencer off...I like free hp.....

the air silencer does exactly what it sounds like, keeps the car a little quiter, taking it off ( as far as i can tell) would do absolutely no harm to your car.

also you really dont gain much of anything in the way of hp by taking it off. Most people take it off because it makes the car sound cooler...

Jim that is an awsome car so jelious over here...black just like mine ...I would love to see more pics..I think I am going with the kennebell cold air and a 70mm tb and then a catted h-pipe for next mods..also have to install my gauges I just got fuel pres and boost I am sure that will be a chore...

Think of it this way: If it is safe to put on KB's cold air intake, why wouldn't it be safe to remove your silencer? Removing the silencer and upgrading the intake plumbing both are a step towards more airflow, which is good for making the KB perform better. Yank it, and don't worry.

If you were to significantly increase your intake airflow, you would need a new tune. I doubt that's case. The only other watch out would be if you start sucking hot air from the engine compartment. I don't think that will be an issue with the heat shield in place.
