Tapping oil pan for Vortech supercharger

Ok...I'm going to install a Vortech SQ trim I just bought in a week or two. I think the install should all be pretty simple...except drilling the oil pan. What are your reccomendations on doing this? Did you take the pan off or leave it on? What kind of drill bit did you use? Anything you would think I should know let me know. Thanks for the help!

You can leave the pan on. Use a punch to start it. Change the oil after of course and then run the car and change the oil again just to be sure. The kit should have detailed instructions.

DO NOT USE A DRILL WHAT SO EVER , use a punch that will roll enough metal inward so you have enough to tap it with the correct size tap , make sure you use the correct PIPE thread (NPT) and you should use several size taps unless you get lucky enough to find one just right , I used 4 different ones going up in sizes as I went to get it big enough ......

Save yourself a lot of pain and worry and take it to a shop and let them tap it.

The one I took mine to did it in a few minutes and it only cost me $50 which is less than the tools needed to do it.

If it is only $50 I probably will take it somewhere. Did you install the rest of the blower youself? And how did you have them tap it?...did you take the pan off the car and bring it to them? Or just have them jack the car up and put the tap in?

I spent 12 bucks at sears and bought a cheap brand set of punches about 9 of them i think it was and used my cut off tool to cut the handles shorter to clear the radiator , had it done in 15 minutes besides time to cut through the punches , one of the easiest parts of installing the whole thing ....IMO
