Tbird T5 vs Mustang T5

A 4cyl T5 is a 4cyl T5 is a 4cyl T5... and so on. There's been a couple of different gearsets but bolt for bolt they're the same. check out one of the T5 ID guides to find what applications got what gearsets. The early TC for instance got 1352-114 which had a 4.03 first gear and a .86 OD.

The T5's behind 2.3's were in fact different throughout the years.

85-86 TC had 1352-114 mentioned above
85-86 SVO got 116 which had a completely different set of gears
'87 TC had 155 which another different gearset
'87 non turbo 2.3 had the same gearset as 155 with a different OD
From 89-93 they were all the same gearset found in three different tag numbers.

Speedo drive gears were 6 or 7 tooth I believe. 7 being the most common.

This covers only the 4cyl. applications. The 5.0's are another deal all together.

OK, I was wrong about the early transmissions. Been awhile since I looked at that chart.

However, '87-88 Turbo Coupe transmissions are identical to '89-93 n/a 2.3L transmission, with the exception of a 6 tooth speedo drive, and the fact that they have an electronic speedo drive vs. the cable drive on the Mustangs. They have different ID numbers, but it's all the same gears.

Yes, the 87 TC gearset is the same as the 89-93 Mustang gearset. I just didn't tie the two of them together in my post. Hell, even I was confused after posting. ;)

I wonder now, if we answered his question or ran him off.
