I have a 72 mustang coupe with a 302 in it and i know it is pretty weak in the hp area. but i want get alot of horses from it and i am not that sure as to how to get there.i still have stock fmx tranny & 8" open but what i have done to it is put an airgap intake, 4brrl carb, headers, accel 45,000 volt coil, accel 300+wires and bored it .030 over, but i was wondering what else to do i want a new cam but i dont know what or how to decide,i was going to get a spacer but dont have the enough space and i plan on getting a 347 crank for it and an aluminum driveshaft. can you guys show me the way lol

Well it all depends on what you want the end product to be. If you're going for "as much streetable hp as possible" like many of us are, myself included, and are planning on stroking, I'd recommend doing that first. A cam and heads for a 302 is going to be different than that for a 347, and you don't want to two sets of each. Once you get it stroked you could upgrade everything else. Then of course if you still want more power you get into the poweradders: S/C, nitrous...turbo even maybe? Like I said it all depends on what you're trying to make this car and how much you're willing to spend on it =)

As for cheaper mods if you're not going to stroke it, there are many things you can do.
Engine: Cam and heads will give you the biggest boost, higher compression pistons, port and polish intake and heads, deep sump oil pan, windage tray, roller rockers, springs, larger valves, pullies, are a few things in the engine.
Exhaust: h or x pipe, dual exhaust (if you don't already have it), less restrictive mufflers.
Ignition: New ignition control, new distributor.
Tranny: High performance rebuild or simply a new transmission, higher stall, shifter, shift kit.
Rear: New gears!
Misc: New tires, driveshaft, air filter...

just listin some options
Good luck.

no not at all, just that different cams/heads would perform differently on a stroked 347 than a 302.

not as much hp? or do i have to get different cams and heads? i was planning on getting airflowresearch heads but im not sure if they'll just bolt on because it says may need aftermarket notched pistons

a lot of parts are meant to run within certain perameters, usually with an optimal rpm range. I think the best way to build an engine is decide what rpm band you want to work in and go from there. For a "street beast" as it were, you will probably only work in the ~1500-6500 range, or in some section of that range. So you would pick your intake, cam, heads, and carb with that rpm range in mind. The stroker doesn't change a whole lot in this regard, but with a stroker engine you will usually have gobs of low end torque and power, so you can take that into account in your build.

im going for great low end torque and good mid range as for high rpms im not sure i dont plan on breaking the speed of sound lol

i wanna keep my air gap and 750 carb but i wanna know wich cam i should get for a daily driver and maximum performance later on if i can i plan on getting a supercharge (centrifugal if possible)
