hey guys

Tonight was a first for me. i tore down my 1999 explorer donor motor down to the bare block. it was alot of fun! I bought it from the junkyard a while ago for $350, complete with a large chunk missing from the passengers side rear of the engine. The SUV was involved in a rollover and my bet is that the front right tire came into the engine bay and ripped the starter and a chunk of the block with it. Anyways, thats why i did the P head swap without pulling the whole motor.

I would like to know more about the rotating assembly. Is it worth a damn? Forged crank and rods, but hypereutectic pistons, right? the cam is trash?

Also, i have the 302 from my 1968 cougar. The block is at least intact, although the thing is dying for a rebuild. How does the rotating assembly compare to the one from the exploder? Could the block be the basis for a rebuilt 306?

CLIFFS
compare shortlbocks and rotating assembly of a 99 explorer and a 68 Cougar. Both 302s.

TIA

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

not sure about forged, I believe its a nodular iron crank/rods, hyper pistons, and a POS cam that I use as a door stop for my shed.

assuming you dont have to over-bore the cougar bock then yes it will work

The rotating assembly is identical to what would have come in your 93, including hypereutectic pistons.
