Temp Gauge Install Advice Request

Hello All -

This is a request for some advice on installing a Ford Racing temp gauge through the middle console air vents.

I have the gauge pod that holds two gauges and allows airflow through two small vents.

At issue is how I should route the large temp sensor through the ducts, through the interior and through the fire, and then to the intake. I plan to use the rear water port on the lower intake manifold.

If you have done this with minimal effort, I would love to hear how you did it.

Thanks in advance for any replies and help.

I personally would never run a mechanical into the interior. I use all electrical on the interior and the only mechanical I have is an oil pressure mounted on the outside. I would suggest you mount it on the outside or else get an electrical.

Not quite....mechanical water guauges typically use a thermal coupler attached via hard line to the gauge. No coolant runs through the lines so there is no risk. :nice:

As far as the original routing question is concerned, perhaps someone else can interject. I will say that if you want an accurate reading, do not use the rear port on the lower intake. The front is much more accurate…so just relocate the stocker to the rear port and install the aftermarket on the front.

If that's the case then no worries. I am familiar with the autometer version from several years ago that uses coolant running to the gauge and says right on it not to mount on interior.

Thanks for the info on where to place the sensor, but what about getting from the console through the firewall????

Right now my thought is to get the drill bit out and guess at where to start drilling through the air ducts on the driver's side of the console and run the sensor-wire through some existing opening in the firewall.

I'd like to limit the guesswork and prevent my drill bit from causing damage outside the air duct. Has anyone ever done this before, or is this one of those things folks just have to figure out?
