Any advice on how to replace an after market "no name" engine temperature guage? The dash guage does not function and the prior owner to me has added a temp guage under the dash. This guage has a electrical wire taped directly into the fuse box. I know that sounds crazy and should be rectified.
I am looking at replacing the entire guage with a new Autometer Sport Comp guage becuase i can not determine what is wrong with the old guage. It is receiving power and the light comes on but the guage does not move. Is this the right way to go?
Sorry for all the questions but i am new to the hobby and am trying to learn and do the work myself.
Thanks for any assistance.

Im assuming the old gauge is a manual

The wire taped into the fuse box is for the lighting of the gauge (HAHA i had this problem to from a previous owner but it was the stereo)

There SHOULD be a little hard coiled line that goes right into the back of the gauges, if you follow this into the engine bay it should lead somewhere to the front of the intake, just take that whole fitting/assembly out and replace it with the new one.

You must route the sender and line from the inside first as most mechanical temp gauge sending unit/lines are built into the gauge
