Temp Probe for DCC controler...

Instructions seem to indicate that the probe should be on the bottom of the rad, on the drivers side. I had placed mine on the passengers side. After moving it my car seems to get above 225F now /w a 180F therm... didn't have problems with it overheating before.

Where did everyone else place their temp probe? I'm not sure if my car has a overheating problem (possibly air pocket?) or if I just put the temp probe in the wrong place

Your location sounds correct.

I'd make super sure the probe is fully 'seated' in the fins, as this is very important.

I"ll have to check that out, i did have to drill a small hole and push it through the fan shroud as the shroud was all the way against the driver's side of the rad. Hopefully it's just sticking to far out or something.

so the passenger side is correct? my instructions didnt tell me, but i figured the hot water inlet was on the passenger side top, so thats where i put my probe...is that ok? i havent ran the car yet and the hot and ignition wires aren't hooked up(where's a good source for ignition hot?), thanks

No... i originally put it on the passenger side. I believe the rad flows water in from the top passenger and across to the bottom drivers side.

So driver's side bottom. Mine didn't have a cooling problem until it was moved though Still havn't checked to make sure I have it seated correctly.

I have mine positioned on the drivers side just in and down from the outlet pipe. I found the unit did want to overshoot 10-20 degrees before ramping up, so to rectify this I use the underdrive jumper included with the kit. The results with the underdrive jumper was a 10% fan speed with ignition on and great results with the temp being held at 185-187 at ALL times. Worth a shot, it worked with mine, might work with yours.

I think i'll give that a shot if it looks seated... I do live in houston, and probalby should have the fan on 100% /w ac and not 50%, which I think the underdrive jumper does as well.

Not to hijack this thread, but I ordered my DCC 4 weeks ago and still don't have it. Contacted Baskin and he said it would ship this week, but its now Friday and still not here, How does he normally ship? UPS, USPS, FedEx?? Man, for this long a wait, it better do dishes too.

On a side note, I thought I read somewhere that the probe should be mounted on the drivers side lower but also outside of the fan shroud. I guess so the fan doesn't cause a falsely low reading??

He can run late...but it's a product worth waiting for. As for fan wash...yes fan wash can affect temp readings, outside the shroud is best for good reading.

How is it normally shipped? If its USPS. Then there is still tomorrow. If its UPS or FedEx, then I only have this afternoon left. Keeping my fingers crossed. Want to get it installed this weekend.

Typically it takes 28 days from start to finish.. It will show up though.


I had my probe next to the radiator outlet. That way the readings the unit were seeing was for the coolant entering back into the engine.

I had no issues with having it ramp up exactly at the correct temps (I installed it during 110*F temps). Weird (that's neither here nor there - just saying it is possible).

I would not have it run at 100% with the AC on - it's not needed unless your fan cannot keep up with the needed heat-rejection (which would be alright. I just post that in case your fan is awesome - it might save you some work). If you have a wicked fan, the car wont get hotter than the preset temp anyhow. If you outrun the fan, then having the fan ramp up sooner would be like a lower rated t-stat - it postpones the time to reach what we consider 'too hot'.

If you do wish to go that route, I'd highly recommend the rheostat. It's pretty cool. I run a very reliable t-stat so I can dial the temp in very precisely in the summer. Then for winter, I dialed the fan threshold back a little bit since runnin too hot is not a biggie.

Oh, I think my controller came in a nice USPS box. It arrived before Brian anticipated too.
