Tensioner replacement

Cant find any info on it in my manual..

I assume its just the one bolt, just wanted to check if I was correct and if it was regular old lefty loosey or not?

Thanks.

edit:

I did search, but didnt find the exact info I was looking for :D

That's correct. The bolt in the center of the arm will take it off. There is an index pin cast into the back that lines up with a hole in the front cover. If you need to take off the pulley off you can put a 3/8 drive ratchet in the front side where you loosen the belt to hold it while you turn the bolt on the other side. It took me longer than it should have to figure that out so I thought I'd throw it out there. You should have seen me with a giant pair of channel locks trying to get it off. I'm sure the neighbors were laughing!

There should be 3 bolts that hold the tension to the front cover and one bolt that holds the pulley onto the assembly. Easiest way to change the pulley is to loosen the bolt before u take the belt off....

The bolt for the pulley is a left hand tighten (backwards) iirc.

Ok, this is why I posted, I found differant information. Was there a change made t the part?

My Haynes manual has nothing on it.

My tensioner is only held on by one bolt that I can see.

My 2003 GT uses a single bolt tensioner. Release the tension on the belt and take it off. The tensioner itself is easily removed with one bolt.

If it was my car, I would replace the entrie tensioner (not service the pulley). The spring weakens over time. Installing a new tensioner ensure the spring is as strong as it should be and you will get new bearings in the pulley at the same time.

I really doubt it. You'd be able to hear it at the same RPM regardless of load if it were. You should be able to open the hood with it running and play with the throttle (in park/neutral of course) around the RPM you hear it at to see.

Its probably those Fuzion ZRi's you hear :)

It could be one of the idler pulleys as well. They can "squeak" when going bad. Pretty common and cheap to replace.

Pop the hood, get a long piece of hose and start listening to pulleys, careful to not get into the belt. :D
