Tested out the whole mpg thing

I know how to figure out mpg. I wanted to know how people say that they get 300+ around city, which I think is . And FruitnCrunch meant he did 50 percent highway and 50 percent city, no 50 mpg lol. He got 25 mpg. So that's pretty much the mods that help get better gas mileage? TA, intake, exhaust?

I get about 270-300 and I have fun with the car, i don't baby it by any means. most I have gotten was around 320 per tank, but I was TRYING to see what I could get.

Why not just reset your trip meter when you fill up.......

Seems a bit easier than writing down your odo reading.

There's only 2 way to increase your mpg

1. T0rn4d0 fuel sav3rzz! 1aa!
2. Easy on the foot. I know it's hard sometimes but that's what you have to do.

i get about 21-22 mpg city highway.when i firstput in my x it dropped to like 16-17 after about two weeks its back up to where it was, when people say 290 to a tank depending on when you fill up if you had used 13 gallons youd get 22

I let my tank go until I had 2 gallons left. The sticker says 17 mpg, how the hell could you end up getting 22? I didn't get on my car once, and I still only got 240 miles on the tank. Would an aftermarket intake and flowmasters help at all?

17/20+ is on the sticker, not sure if it's 21 or 24, i know the 03/04 cobras have 17street, 24 freeway.

OK: First of all these cars are not built to have good gas mileage, I have seen people complain and have no better then 180 a tank no matter what they do, here is my advice......

If you drive alot of city driving, you're not gonna get that good of mileage, it's just the way it is. now if you drive mix then 18-20 mpg is possible. But if your driving street, you can still get decent mileage by coasting when you have to, throwing it in 5th going 40 or 45(I do that with 3:73's) ETC.

ALSO: When Tim @ T&J tuned my car, I did a simple reflash, adjusted timing, adjusted my fans to keep my motor running cooler and of course adjusted my air fuel. ever since then I have been getting 20-22 MPG with FUN/HARD driving! most mustangs with mods that HAVE NOT BEEN TUNED run PIG RICH, that equals BAD GAS MILEAGE, rich is simply more fuel then air, but that IS SAFE MIND YOU. And now with the weather being hot, humid, mileage goes down as well. so my advice, drive your car how you want, but all said and done, get a nice tune like I did and alot of guys and you would be surprised how that helps, good luck

Some will argue but I think any mod that makes a car breath better, whether it be on the intake side or on the exhaust side, will be met with a proportionate increase in fuel consumption, so I don't think there's much fuel savings there.

A set of taller gears will improve your highway #'s but might not improve your city #'s.

Mods that allow the car roll better will help. Improved aerodynamics will help a tiny bit but primarily only when you're on the highway. (Keep the windows closed and remove the wipers lol.) Economy minded tires will help. But who wants skinny, whimpy tires on their Mustang?

Ignition timing adjustments would likely help but we wouldn't like the way the car runs with a tune up geared toward fuel economy.

Maybe someday there'll be a DOD kit available lol.

Im no car or math expert but I was thinking, any mod that doesn't run off the power the engine produces and gives you more power would have to increase your mpg. Unlike superchargers which are hooked up to the engine and require power to work, but we all know that. I think that having a good intake and exhaust which increases your power and requires no power would only increase your mpg. I dont really know. But thats my 2 cents.

Well, I don't think I need a tune-up on a stock motor. What intake would be best to get? I might do the timing thing down the road sometime, but first I would like an intake.

Also gonna have to disagree with the more hp = more gas usage statement. Like most, I get 21-22 mpg. I reset my trip meter every fill up and have a running avg going. Was hoping that pulleys would give me 1 mpg, but they didn't. Would think that aftermarket exhaust would increase gas mileage given tune or computer reset. I have talked to a few Corvette owners after reading some stuff online and they get better gas mileage than us. 21 city, 28 highway, so figure that one out.

why would more hp = better gas mileage. if you have more power over the entire power band it's going to use more fuel if you drive at the same RPMs. even if you drive at 1500 rpms, and you have more power, it'll use more fuel and you'll get worse mileage.

oh, I got 25 mpg (231 miles/9.13 gal) from Rockville, MD to the last rest stop on the NJTP (Vince Lombardi). I avg'd 23mpg for the whole 450 mile trip. I've never gotten above 23mpg until that first leg of the trip. I was using my AC too, since my sister was with me and my car with the windows down and exhaust is too loud for people to talk. so AC'd.

enen though you can produce 200hp at 1500rpm that doesn't mean that you are all the time, when you are cruising your probally only putting out 40hp, and with the vette mileage they have a nice 6th gear are more aerodynamic and If i'm not mistaken the higher your compression the more power you produce with the same given intake and fuel volume therefore that should help with the mileage also.

Dont look bad. Did you get a print out in 100rpm intervals? Thats the only type I really care about when I dyno, graphs to me are just eye candy.

I guess you just have a heavy foot.

I drive in New Orleans traffic everyday and I still average 21-23 mpg (this is with Comp Cams and untuned) Straight hwy driving I will get between 26-28 mpg. It all depends on the driver. Nobody drives the same.
