Alright... I just went and took the TFI off finally. I found a website on the internet - http://www.coolcats.net/tech/troubleshooting/tfi.html - and it has a good troubleshooting guide to TFI modules. It says to take it off, pop the inspection cover and inspect the inside. The film shouldn't be dried up or cracked and the case shouldn't be cracked up etc. Mine looks extremely good on the inside and outside. The film is soft and gel like still.
I really hate to go out and buy a $130 part if it isn't the problem. It says to hook up an ohm meter to it and it should be below 800 ohms or above 975 ohms. I am not a big electronics expert so I guess I am wondering how I go about testing it? What connectors do I hook onto? There are a total of 3 on the top and the 6 with the regular connector.
A recap on my problem again... car was losing all spark (dying) while driving or sitting stopped at random times the other night. Didn't matter what rpm or whether I was on the highway or stopped at a stoplight. I am guessing either TFI module, coil, or ignition switch from what all of you have told me. I am not thinking the ignition switch so much because when I was stopped it still did the same thing and wiggling the key did no good either. That leaves me with the TFI or coil... and I'd like to figure it out for sure before I throw a bunch of money away.
