How does the TF cam sound compared to the B303 at idle in a 302? The B303 sounds "rough and tumble" like an old 60's hot street cam. Has any one heard both cams in similarly set up engines?

look at the specs, the TW cam is way more radical than the B, of course its gonna be a nasty, filthier sounding cam that we all desire...

Why is the TW more radical, in a good way? is it better for performance? I dunno as well as TJM73 doesnt know -

more lift and duration makes more power at higher RPMs, as long as the cylinder heads, intake manifold and headers (long tubes) will keep up with the cam. The TW stage 1 would need a set of aftermarket heads like AFR 165's or TW's to realize its potential, and a Edelbrock RPM type manifold and 1 5/8 headers. In a 5.0 sized engine you'd see peak HP just over 6000 RPMs with that cam so you'd be ok using a factory short block.

Can anyone else offer any input?

I'm curious about the idle carracteristics of the two cams. I have a B303 and it sounds great and my car runs really well with it. i have access to a TF Stage 2 cam for a different engine that will be put into a street rod and I want to maintain that B303 like idle. TF Stage 2 is supposed to be a better cam for power production which is good, but I want to maintain that nasty idle.

stage 2 will not work with stock pistons as I have come to understand..they will have to be notched. The TFS stage 2 is not going to be a polite cam on the street AT ALL and the B cam is in NO WAY to be compared to a STAGE 2...they are apples to oranges...the B is old school a little out dated..the STAGE 2 is more a medium/heavily modded stang cam.

Instead of picking a cam that may sound "nastier, " why not pick one that will better work with what you have.

Well I'm looking at a street rod weighing about 2500 lbs with a 5.0 so anything over 250 rwhp will make it plenty fast. And it MUST sound like a real hot rod. I ask about the idle carracteristics because I can go either way for the cam choice. Instead of suggesting something other than what I asked about how about ansering my question at it's face value or not saying anything at all.

I find it funny that people want a cam for the sound....

like viking said, to compaire those 2 is a bit silly. If you want a cam that is radical, get a custom one for another $100.

Perhaps the rest of the engine plan is in order.

Stock Bore/Stroke 302
Thumper Heads
Roller Rockers
Weiand Stealth Carb Intake
625 Demon Carb
10:1 Compression Pistons

and either a B303 or the TF Stage 2 cam. NO other cams are an option. I can get the B303 from thumper when I order heads or the TF Stage 2 from my brother for about $125. So buying a custom cam is not someting I am going to do.

isnt that carb a bit agressive for those heads? im not too knowledgeable about carbs, but from what i hear, the Demons are agressive. For those heads, i would go B cam.

My TFS stage 2 cam video

don't expect a to idle with this cam coz it's impossible. i was lucky to get it to idle a little in this video. for the power band for this cam is WOW. i love it so much even with my AODE tranny.

It's the correct carb for the job. Demon carb are not more or less aggressive than a similar sized Holley, but they are far better quality wise and cfm for cfm make more power it seems. With a Holley I would run a 650 with this combo. Next step down with a Demon carb is 525cfm and I fear that's too small.

well said...with stock ported heads, i wouldn't go any bigger than an E303 so a B303 should work fine

Boys, boys, boys...let's play well or not at all. He brought up a good point and a legitimate concern. Maybe you had thought of this already, but you did ask for input, after all.

You're right. I wrote that last night when I was a little irritated about some other stuff. My bad.
