tfi probs?

FWIW, a TFI's critical temp is ~257*F.

I'd have the thing bench tested repeatedly (to simulate some underhood heat).

Coils sometimes crap out in a similar fashion.

Good luck.

Slow, it'll be hard to test the coil since you need to do it while the car is acting up. A circus midget sitting on the engine while you rip off WOT runs might not work very well. I don't throw parts at things but do keep spare parts around (for repairs as they crop up). This is a time where just trying a spare (or friend's) coil can be easiest.

Of if you can get it to miss at idle, you can do your own testing.

And we should note that it is best to not get tunnel vision here. We are on an ignition tangent here, but your issue might be something else entirely. Pulling codes and considering all options is the way to go.

Good luck.

another stupid quesiton as i want to test my tfi as well at advance. how do you take it off? :D

i notice that there are wires connected to it. i know... i know... im clueless!:rlaugh:

Jim, you best bet is to get a TFI wrench. They sell them at decent parts stores (this saves you from having to grind down the walls of a 5.5 mm socket). You'll also need some thermal (heat sink) grease for when you reinstall the module.

Good luck.
