TFS#1 cam, what kind of power increase?

I am installing a TFS#1 cam, what kind of power increase will I get out of it on a stock head? If I install the twisted wedge heads should I be ok on valve clearance? One the new heads are installed, what kind of power should I expect, and can I run the stock 19# injectors w/ it being tuned w/ a PMS unit? Thanks

You're going to notice quite a bit of low-end gone. If we raced a dyno, you'd probably be up another 10 horsepower on the top end. Torque is questionable.

Valve clearance on the TW heads would probably be fine -- the stage 1 cam is what the TFS 5.0 engine kit comes with -- but I would always check when you install the heads to be sure.

I have no clearance problems with my TW heads and Stage 1 cam

With stock e7 heads I would wait until you had some heads, your not going to see much. I noticed a good pic up at about 2,500-2,800rpms up. the low end was a little soft but it got out of that area quick and was below 2,400-2,500rpms. When I called TFS about what I needed they said 24# inj. aftermarket intake, bigger Mass air meter at least. Although thats with gt40 heads (a little bit better than stock e7s) With a 35% drop in cyl. #3 compresion I still got 231rwhp and 281rwtq. so on healthy motor it should do well.

Why would there not be much power increase over the stock cam? I would figure it is because of the stock heads, but how much HP can I expect to get out of this cam? Do I need to go with a larger throttle body an if so, what size should I get 65 mm? What size MAF would I need? Thanks

To take advantage of the P&P job on the lower manifold, I would get a 70mm TB. I'm not going to comment on the MAF because I'll just cause a ruckus. I would highly recommend checking valve spring pressures at the seat and at max. lift to make sure the stock springs will suffice. I don't believe they will. Coil bind is the enemy, and I believe you are going to run into it.

There isn't going to be much more power until about 3200 RPM or so. The ports on the E7 head are so small that you really aren't doing yourself any good by using a bigger cam. You will make more PEAK power with the camshaft, but peak power doesn't get you down the track; the area under the curve does. In my ever so knowledgeable opinion, I don't think there will be a great increase in the area under the curve. You're looking at 10 more PEAK horsepower than before.

So with bigger cam we will lose more low end torque , correct

90% of the time on stock heads you would prob. loose low end torque with a bigger cam. But there is more too a cam than just being higher lift so many other factors come into play on the dyno graph curve.

wouldnt a 70 mm be to big of a TB? I would figure that a medium size cam like the TFS#1 with .499 lift on the intake would make it flow much better than the stock cam. I realize that the heads are bottle necking this whole air flow process, but would it help over the whole HP curve after 2000 or 2500 rpm? Thanks

The 70 is not too big. I'm not saying any more than that. Everyone will come out of the woodwork and tell you 65. You make the decision.

Yes, the cam will make more power. The question is how much power, and will it help. The answer to that, is marginal(ly).

what kind of power will I get out of the twisted wedge heads and the tfs#1 cam with a 70 mm TB bigger MAF and I guess 24 lbs injectors tuned with a PMS setup? I was hoping for at least 320 FWHP, I wanna whoop up on some WS6 butt!

I wouldn't get to funky with throwing parts at your stock heads. Even if you went with a set of E7's and sent them to thumper for some tlc.

The stage 1 cam is a pretty good cam, and it matches up well to the tfs heads you were talking about. So you would probably see a nice gain if you switched both the heads and the cam. I would use no less than a 65mm tb and probably would go with a 70mm. I have a 76mm by C&L that I use on my 347 and I think I am going to go to a 80mm. I could cut you a deal on that if you so desire.

What tfs heads are you considering. the twisted wedges or the track heats. the track heats aren't drilled for smog and have the beefed up valve springs on them, so if you get the tw's, go for the optional springs, they will benefit you as well.

I would also recommed running at least a 24 lb injector. 30's wouldn't be too much either I don't think. You could get an afpr to play with that a little bit too.

I think with the tfs heads, cam 30lb injectors and a good mass air meter, you could come pretty close to accomplishing 300 horse. It would be close with a good tune.

that 76 C&L is calibrated for 30lb injectors just fyi.

I need bigger injectors too, but I go 347 not 302.
