Will TW heads work with a 2030 cam on a stock block? When I was researching the combo I wanted, I was under the impression the 2030 and 2031 were exactly the same except for 1.6 and 1.7 rockers respectively. Now that I look at the numbers, TW heads max lift is .540. The 2030 is .533 intake and .544 exhaust and the 2031 is .513 intake and .529 exhaust.

Now the 2031 is the 1.7 cam and the 1.7's would add @.04in of lift and again we would be over the TW max of .540.

What am I missing? I thought a lot of people ran these cams with this setup?

The TW max lift is not .540. Thats the max lift the stock TW springs are rated to handle.

I've ran .547/.536 with .020" milled TW heads on a stock block. 6200 rpm, no problems. But we all know @ .050" lift is meaningless in terms of piston to valve clearance.

What he's saying is get a set of better springs to take complete advantage of the camshaft. That is probably some of the best 100 bucks you could possibly spend. Trust me.

That's what he's saying.

So in summary: .540 is the max "recommended" lift for the stock TW springs. .540 is NOT the max lift for good piston to valve clearance with a stock block. So with or without the spring upgrade, I am good!!

Thank you and I will look into the spring upgrade.

This setup is just to hold me over till I get my 331. First comes a house and then I will have a nice garage to do the eng swap in. The heads, valve train, and T-body were bought with the 331 in mind. The cam and cobra intake will only be use on my stock block with this set up. Since the cam is “just because“, I did not want to have to worry about piston to valve clearance with a big cam.
This is why I asked about the .540 of the TW heads, I got nervous for a sec. Thanks for explaining that I will be fine.
