The 2007 Official College Football Thread

That point is moot because you don't always luck out and play a team at it's peak year. LSU scheduled Arizona, Arizona St, Fresno St, Oregon St and Virginia Tech in the last few seasons but when they were scheduled they were pretty good. Not so much when they played except VT. So scheduling quality opponents is hit or miss.

Florida will always play Florida St since it is an in-state rival. Not their fault they have been crappy the last few years.

Traditionally none of those teams you listed except Va Tech is very good. Arizona State had a few years with Jake Plummber, but those teams are mid level at best in their conferences normally.

Same thing that its no Ohio States fault the big ten is weaker this year, except there are 5 big 10 teams in the USA Today top 25 poll released today and Ohio State has all four scheduled back to back to back to back.

yeah, my points wont change, and it's due to being a fan (and student) here at UF. but yeah, i know that you can argue either side... just depends on which way you want to look at it. i can say those bowl stats you posted up mean nothing due to the fact that most of those losses were under a coach we dont have now  but that doesnt help the argument. all in all, college football, as long as the bcs is around, is never going to be "fair."

True that. What kind of playoff do you want? I think a 8 team would be the best way to go. Anything more and imo you take away some of the meaning of the regular season.

yeah, 8 is a reasonable offer, you dont want it to be too big, but at the same time, we gotta get rid of the complaints of "they had it easier than we did" stuff. playoffs are also real fun to watch/guess about, just like in basketball.

8 is good, but i wouldnt object to a 4 or a 16 team playoff either. just no more/less than that. i think it would also be good for footballs ratings, as well as make everything more fair...

There have been rumors of a Bowl season +1. Play the BCS bowl games and the two teams 1-2 in the BCS after the bowls play for the NC. I prefer a true playoff with 8 teams. The bowl could be incorporated in the playoff series and rotate the NCG between them.

Ohio State got rooked...or Zooked. I don't see why they would drop to 7th when Illinois is a good team. I guess because they were not ranked.

Alot has to do with they lost late in the season. Its much easier to recover from a loss week 1 or 2 than week 10 or 11.

Also when LSU lost to UK, UK was ranked and it was on the road. Oregon lost to Cal when Cal was ranked #2 or so. Ill was not ranked and it was at OSU.

Oklahoma did lose to a bad team too, but I think they dropped to 7 or 8 too. BC also dropped to 8 or 9. Well more than that now.

Kansas and Missouri will both lose so OSU will be back up to 5 or so at the end of it. Either way it doesnt matter now they have no shot at the BCS title game. Its Rose Bowl or bust for them now.

When LSU lost to Florida in 03 it was about the same time as the KY loss this season. We just happened to be able to jump back into it earlier.

I still think the OSU loss hit them too hard. But win out and everyone ahead of them lose they could be in the thick again.

Looks like LSU/Oregon but some gurus say Kansas may jump Oregon if they win out.

Here is an interesting Bowl match-up...

Capital One-----Jan. 1-----Orlando-----ABC-----Big Ten No. 2 vs. SEC No. 2----Illinois vs. Florida

Kansas has to play Missouri and then if they win that, they play Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game. Its unlikely they will win both.

As for the bowl scenario it wouldnt be either team.

UM would be the Big 10 #2 even if they lose next week. Both would be 6-2 in conference and UM beat Illinois.

I dont know how you figure Florida would be the SEC #2 either. Georgia only has 2 loses and already spanked Florida this year. I guess Georgia could lose again, but I doubt the will with how good they are playing. If anything Tennesee would be above Florida too if they win out because their in conference record is better.

florida would be 2 because lsu would be 1, going to the champ game, uga would be 2, going to the sugar bowl, and we'd be "called" number 2, and in that game

Not if Tennesee wins out. They still have 1 less SEC loss to this point. But even if UGA and Tennesee both lose Auburn could win out and they beat Florida too, so they would be #2.

You will be Kentuckys biggest fan the next two weeks. They play both teams you need to jump to get to the SEC title game.

I didn't figure. Copy and paste from CBSSportsline.

I just dont see how they figure that out. I mean I guess a bowl could pick between two teams with the same record, but who would choose IL over UM or OSU? Both UM or OSU would heavily out draw IL on TV ratings and fans attending.

Florida needs alot to happen to be #2 in the SEC

They also have Oklahoma playing Kansas in a BCS bowl game. Two Big 12 teams playing each other? And a possible Big 12 Champ Game rematch. I doubt that.

yeah, if UK beats both uga and tenn, we go to the sec champ game....

edit: or if tenn loses to vandy...

basically, uga has to lose to UK for us to go to the champ game, cause if they dont lose, it doesnt matter if tenn does or not. if they do lose, we just need tenn to lose to one of the 2 sec teams left.... it's an iffy scenario for UF, but not impossible

so, one thing i havent seen mentioned much... who you guys picking for heisman?

obviously you know my opinion, but i think it is a majority opinion not just fan based.

Tim Tebow broke Danny Wuerffel's record for most touchdowns in a season
He broke Emmit Smith's record for rushing touchdowns in a season
He is 3 away from holding the most rushing touchdowns BY ANY PLAYER EVER in a season

simply put, Tebow is awesome. he is like 75% of our total offense, and the most versatile player on the field. he deserves it far more than any other player can come close to. the sad part is, him being a sophomore will probably prevent him from getting it, simply because "he can get it later" :(

even though tebow far more deserves it, i have a feeling dennis dixon will get it, due to being a senior, and having less losses

Well, that was weird....WVU beat Louisville...barely...and they were unranked, but we moved up a spot or two in the rankings

That was a pretty sloppy win on our part, in fact it looked a lot to me like last year's game against USF where WVU pretty much gave the game away (fumbles, etc).

The Big East looked good back about the middle of the season, but everyone's been so busy whacking each other in the kneecaps, it doesn't look very impressive. WVU, UConn, and Cincinnati are still ranked but Cincy and Uconn are near the bottom of the barrel.

Upsets so far in the big east:

USF beat WVU
Rutgers beat USF
Louisville beat Cincinnati
Cincinnati beat Uconn

And so on and so forth. WVU has cincinnati coming up this week and they better win this one and look like they should.
