The 2007 Official College Football Thread

I am by no means a Ohio State fan, but you SEC guys are retarded. Ohio State is not mediocre.

2002 Final AP Ranking - 1st (14-0)
2003 Final AP Ranking - 4th (11-2)
2004 Final AP Ranking - 20th (8-4)
2005 Final AP Ranking - 4th (10-2)
2006 Final AP Ranking - 2nd (12-1)
2007 Final AP Ranking (before bowl game) - 1st (11-1)

From 2002 - 2006 OSU is 4 - 1 in bowl games

They are 5 - 1 in BCS Bowl Games (98 Sugar, 02, 04, 05 Fiesta, and 06 Title)

They are 17 - 5 against teams ranked in the top 25 since the 2002 season

This will be their 3rd BCS title game (1-1 thus far)

The only other team that has that resume since 2002 is USC. Id say OSU is a top 3 program in the country.

Who said OSU were mediocre? I was disputing the article when she said Les Miles was a mediocre coach. He is in some pretty good company with Tressel, Carroll and Meyer. How can a coach be average when he wins his conference, gets to the national championship and had Michigan beating on his door to be the next coming of Bo?

i said they were. this year, osu has not impressed me. they also didnt last year. but yes, they've done well overall in the recent times, but they also have had some nice breaks to help them get there, especially this year

I guess getting breaks if you consider other teams losing breaks then you are correct.

I also dont think OSU is the best team in the country, but its not their fault USC lost to Stanford, WVU lost to Pitt, Missouri lost to OU twice, that LSU lost to Arkansas at home, that Oklahoma lost to Colorado, etc.

Ohio state beats the teams they should and thier only loss is to a very good top 15 Illinois team.

You can complain about their non-conference schedule all you want, but this was 1 year inbetween playing Texas and USC. Florida hasnt played a championship caliber team in their non-conference for who knows how long.

well, yeah, but having a championship caliber non conference opponent isnt nearly as important when your conference opponents are far more challenging, imo

but, whatever, if i had to say the 2 i'd put in the champ game atm, it'd be georgia and USC, but the season goes how it does, and we cant change it now

I hear this all the time from SEC proponents, yet that argument seems to be at odds with the SEC's performance against Big Ten teams last year in bowl games. The SEC was 1-2 against the Big Ten last year in case you forgot. One bad game by Ohio State against Florida and an embarrasing loss by Michigan against App State to start this season and suddenly the Big Ten is mediocre and the SEC is the be all, end all of college football? At least we have a couple more good match ups to look forward to.

well, while i agree with you, those 2 games the sec lost were way way way closer than the osu/uf game (tenn lost by 10, arky by 3, and remember, osu lost by 27), and could be said, just like what you said about osu, to be "two bad games." and i still, regardless of that fact, think the big ten is mediocre. michigan and osu are pretty much the only teams worth noting (this year illinois is too, and other years, it's sometimes worth noting penn state and wisconsin). the sec has multiple teams watched all year, auburn, uf, bama, uga, lsu, tennesse (and in random years, arky and kentucky are one to watch). also, in the final bcs poll, the SEC has 5 teams in the top 25 (lsu, uga, uf, tennessee, and auburn), whereas the big 10 has 3.... (osu, illinois, and wisconsin).

and above all, it's all going to be a biased opinion. mine is not going to change, and yours probably wont either. like i've said multiple times, nobody's opinion will really be "100% fact" (otherwise it's not an opinion, lol) until we have a playoff. till then, we'll both throw out facts, but never come to an agreement

edit: oh yeah, i was going to say also, i look forward to all the bowl games, and am going to be really sad when it's over. this is my last college year, so no more being in college watching football. i'll still be a diehard fan, but i hate waiting until the next season! it's torture!

Overall head to head Big Ten vs SEC (Bowl and Regular Season)

04 - 05 Big Ten 2 SEC 1
05 - 06 Big Ten 1 SEC 1
06 - 07 Big Ten 3 SEC 1

Yup you are right, the SEC is WAY better than the Big 10.

I dont know how you cannot call the Big Ten winning more game head to head versus the SEC as not factual but whatever works I guess.

But I was bored so I did some reserach for those interested regarding the Big Ten versus all other conferences and Notre Dame.

Basically the Big East and ACC are the Big 10's bitch, the SEC and Big 12 are fairly even, but the Big 10 is the Pac 10's bitch.

These are based on what conference the teams are in right now.

i didnt say that they didnt win more, nor was my statement about that fact. i said that the big 10 is mediocre, and that is an opinion, no facts will change that.

:rlaugh: "I believe what I want and no facts that prove otherwise can change that"

Seriously SEC fans are the most dillusional in college football.

I dont think the Big 10 is as good as the SEC this year either, but I certainly wouldnt consider it mediocre. The Big 10 is 4-4 against all other conferences this year. Id say they are all pretty close imo. The SEC I believe overall is under .500 against BCS conferences and as I have said in this thread againt good teams from other conferences is 2-8.

You can think whatever you want, but the SEC is WAY over-rated. Its may be top to bottom the best conference, but not by much.

You contradict yourself. You say the SEC is WAY over-rated but the next sentence you say it may be the best top to bottom but not by much...so that means the all others are just sort-of overrated?

We'll see if you still agree with that statement after the Tenn/Wis, FL/Mich and OSU/LSU games. The closest of these three is gonna be the Tenn/Wis game, with Tennessee pulling it out. Florida and their Heisman trophy winning quaterback will destroy BIG BLUE, and LSU will embarrass OSU. And good luck with The FIGHTING ILLINI against USC.....

my order of those games in terms of "biggest beatdown"

1. UF/mich: meatchicken doesnt like the spread, and UF (with tebow of course) runs one very very mean spread..... could hurt mich bad.....

2. USC/ILL: while i think the fighting zookers are doing far better, mr. zook himself has some terrible luck with bowls. combine that with USC being on fire right now, and it's going to make people realize why zook is not UF's coach. It wont be quite as bad as what happens to mich (mostly cause ill can defend usc a bit better, and isnt a victim of a different offense) but it will hurt.

3. LSU/OSU: this one is hard for me to vote on. I could see it going any way.... blowout by lsu, close game, or even a retarded moment by lsu. i've only seen 2 osu games, and they dont look like they can take on a healthy LSU. now, the key will be having LSU be healthy. if they're up to par, i forsee osu not being able to do much, and when hester has that ball, lsu will be getting points. i see it as the closest of these 3 games mentioned, but still could be a blowout....

wow, that was quite an analysis. usually i dont think/write that much, but hey, why not. of course, this is all my opinion, and, you never know, i could be 100% wrong

edit: forgot about the tenn/wisky game! i know tennessee has gotten their act together a bit, but i dunno. they are very vulnerable sometimes.... i could see it going either way, this one will be closer than lsu/osu i would think. but in the end, i can see tenn keeping their heads on straight, and pulling it off with a field goal or such

LSU will be back 100%. The weak run defense was due to Dorsey being injured and not all there after the Auburn game. OSU can only hope LSU gives them the ball 3-4 times on turnovers because this one will get ugly in a hurry. See Virginia Tech in week 2. Look for QB Perrilloux to be in this one a good bit also. I think the OSU defense will have more than it can handle.
