Anybody know what its called? Mine looks kind of old and i was thinking about taking it off and painting it.

That being said, anybody know how to get it off? I'm also wanting to paint my mirrors too. Basically any exterior plastic on the car seems to be fading.

Its called the cowl. Sorry, I have no idea how to get it off.

I used some mothers "back to black" on my cowl and mirrors when it was a little faded and it made it look good, but yours looks like its too faded for that....

yeah the back to black works great. the trim on my jeep turned out looking like new.

and wow that mr. clean magic erase worked great!

as far as taking it off, i think you have to go in from under the hood and take out the panel in the back then you can get to the cowl. i could be wrong, but my brief time looking into removing my cracked one, that was going to be my first move.

Thats what my first move was going to be as well... although, now that i've seen the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser go to work I might pick that up Before I decide to paint. OR the back to black... basically, I'll choose whichever has a cooler label once I get to the auto store. I'll take some before and after shots for you guys.

the wipers come offsuper easy if you dont already know how to take them off. flip em up and then theres that little L shaped piece that sticks out... push that in and lift the arm up :nice:

Alright, even though I said I was going to get one of the two former mentioned applications I decided to change my mind and just use what I had in my garage.

I used some f21 from turtle wax (circled in red) which i usually use on my interior and i finished it up with some turtle wax polishing compound (circled in green) which put a nice smooth and equal dark hue everything.

I used back-to-black on the cowl and mirrors all of last year and it worked great, only problem is the results are temporary and I had to re-do it after every 3 or 4 washes. I tried the Klasse All-In-On on them last weekend and it worked amazingly! Got rid of all of the surface oxidation on the plastic. They look new again.

hmm, i havn't heard of the klasse kit, I might check that out after i wash the car a few times and see how this holds up.

you pull the wipers off like mentioned already, then open the hood and the cowl just pops off if you pull gently. Start from one corner and pull up... try not to pop the metal grates off... be wary of the squirter hoses and note how they were routed
