That is not the assumption I make. The reality is that it probably will handle better than the older Mustangs. However, it would benefit the driver in both handling and ride to use an IRS set up.

Look at any car that is known for its handling prowess. M3, Z06, NSX.....not a solid axle to be found.

I am just disappointed that Ford is using a chassis designed for IRS but somehow didn't put one in.

I really question that percentage. 10% maybe but 30% seems terribly high.

I agree. I thinks it's a given that the 05 will handle better than the 99-04, just like the 99-04 handled better than the 94-98, and just like 94-98 handled way better than the 79-93. But with that said, the car will prbably still have all those annoying live axle habits (maybe just masked better). They could have vad a great handling and riding car and would have eliminated all the nastiness inherent with the live axle design.

That's just the percentages I've seen floating around. Which doesn't terribly surprise me. A large majority of mustang owners I know take their car to the drag races. In my circles 30% is probably low.

I got that number from an interview I read with one of the Mustang's engineer's.

Yeah I have seen that number around here too. Then I think about my 54 year old aunt who just bought a V6 (the majority of Mustang sales) and I can't fathom her ever racing.

Ford is projecting 200,000 cars sold. Thats 60,000 drag racers. Seems like a lot to me. Now granted I don't know where they got this 30% number from. They could be estimating all of the Mustangs that are currently being driven or they could be estimating the number of racers in a model year. It just seems a little askew.

Man I am tired.

I would agree with you. Although after remembering my mother street racing when she had her mustang skews things all off.

I know what you mean...I remeber riding in the back of my grandmothers 71 429CJ Mach 1 when I was a baby...scary thought.

But anyways, the 30% number comes Hu Thai Tang...Mustang Chief Engineer from the Winnipeg Free Press article.

There's enough racers that Ford uses that reason for going with the solid axle. The percentage of racers in the Mustang population may be low, but go to the track sometime and you'll see that the percentage of Mustangs in the racing population is very high. Ford likes to please racers... we break lots of stuff and we have to buy lots of parts and new cars!

Let me see, there have been over 8 million Mustangs built since 1964.

Let's say that there are 1/3 of them left on the road = 2.64 M (probably a low #)

And 30% of them drag race = 800,000 Mustangs at the track?

I know more people who autocross Mustangs than drag race and some overlap. It is at least 3 to one or higher.

Am i the only one that doesn't like it?

Havent really read that many posts here but most people seem to love this car... am I the only one that doesn't like anything about it?? Ive seen a few people bash the car pretty bad, im not like that, I mean it looks to be a great car but the look is just not my cup of tea. See I never liked the 60's Mustangs to begin with, and this one has alot of styling cues from that one so I guess it reminds me too much of it or something? Oh well, I think the current Mustangs (not the v6) are the most beautiful ones ever made.... maybe the NEXT one....

While i don't think it's better looking than the Sn95's (especially new Cobra's, Mach's, or even the GT), it does look good and the looks seem to have a lot more potential as well. The interior, chassis, etc.... should be light years better though.

Like most models you'll have your early adopters and then you'll have the majority of the rest eventually love it over time of getting used to it. I for one things its exactly what they should have done witht he new stang. Everything except the damn mufflers

Yup. People really hated the 94 when it came out. People tend to like the car they fell in love with. The 79-93 5.0 guys really hated the SN95s at first. In general people are a lot more excited about this Mustang than any since the original came out.

Yeah the mufflers are really DUMB! Why would you want to put them so far back, aside from having the tank further into the car?

I've basically a hit or miss guy when it comes to mustangs, and I've loved every mustang thats been out (cept for the early foxbodys, too boxy for me, the 87-93 im still in love with though), and the new mustangs are no exception. I just started a new saving fund and started investing so that when im in my early 20's i'll be able to get one because I love it that much (this does mean that I will have to drive a total piece of crap for a few years).

But it will be worth it
