I assume it will. Main issue is how the boot interfaces with the shift lever.

Doing a test spot for the Citristrip. Stupid my used a foam brush I had for using POR-15, yeah the Citristrip just melted it. Did a test scrape after 30 mins and it’s already taking paint off. @Mustang5L5 did you use a trash bag when you wrapped your intake? Didn’t know if it would melt the plastic trash bag or not.

Yes, you can use the stock shifter trim with the Hurst shifter. I didnt care for the finish of the Hurst cover, and transplanted their rubber boot to my stock bezel and it all fits fine.

Yeah I used s trash bag to keep it all humid and prevent it from drying out. Basically I coated the intake, got the inside of the trash bag wet, then bagged the intake and let it sit in my slop sink overnight. Next day I washed it and literally peeled chunks of paint off. I think I repeated two times and then took it to the car wash to power wash the outside and inside.

I got a pair of long dish gloves and just used my hands to apply it.

You probably don't need to wait overnight, but I had the time so I figured it wouldn't hurt.

After about 2 hours sitting on the intake, the paint is soft and will peel of scraped. Gonna coat the whole thing and bag it. Any harm of coating it and bagging it for about 24 hours?

It's an alternative to the aircraft stripper spray paint you see commonly used.

The aircraft stripper is fast, but it uses some pretty nasty chemicals. Need to do it outside and try not to breathe or touch it.

The gel stuff works slower, but is generally safer. I was able to do it all in my basement without much fumes other than a citrus smell.

If you have the time, gel is the way to go. I've used it to also strip the finish off a few rifle stocks I was refinishing. Pretty good stripper

Well she’s all coated in the stripper. Felt like I was buttering a turkey! I’ll check on it in the morning and then I’ll try to hit it with a pressure washer when I get home from work. Sucker is slippery!

Anyone use oven cleaner to clean the inside of an intake?

It reacts with aluminum, but can be nuetralized with water.

I’ll go to the auto parts store and look for some aluminum safe cleaner, foaming is would be best to get into the intake.

I’ve always just used degreasers like purple power and big yank to clean them out.
That orange stuff you guys are using,is it pricey?

Woke up a little earlier than normal this morning before work to go check on the intake. Looked as though some of it had dried. No paint peeling yet. I didn’t try brushing or scraping it. Maybe it’s the cold in the garage. Anyways, I applied another coat, I should be able to pressure wash it after work today. I also got some Gunk engine degreaser that’s safe for aluminum, so I’ll try to wash out the inside of most of the big stuff. Will post pics later after washing.

Well I have to say, I hate pressure washing when it’s cold and that I forgot my rain suit at work. So needless to say I was soaked head to toe. It seems not matter where you stand relative to the intake, it sprays back at you. But it was well worth it.

The underside was the hardest. I’m still not done, I’m thinking of taking a wire brush attachment to it to see if I can finish that way.

The citriclean didn’t seem to work when I first looked, but then I hit it with the pressure washer and it just started peeling off in sheets.

May have gotten a little close with the pressure washer here.
Clean up sucked. Finally used my shop vacs floor attachment, made life a lot easier.

I may just try the citristrip again in those areas, cause now I have to pressure wash the driveway anyways, so says the wife.

Damn. That's one hell of a pressure washer.

I had to go back in and spot treat a few small areas as well.

When you are done, hot water and soap scrub. You really want to make sure all that stripper residue is gone.

After that, I used a rotary sander with a 220 grit wheel to clean the gasket sealing surfaces.

Edit: I sanded after paint. Then a final light water rinse through the intake
