Ok, i got the new block, it has new pistons, roller tappets, new stock cam in it, new timing chain, and that is about it - oh and new bearings - Ok... While the motor is apart like it is, i will most DEFINATELY change the cam. Now ive been told the Trick Flow Stage cams are the best, now For my close to stock set up, cobra intake, ported stock heads, and new engine, i would like to know which stage cam I should get. They are in like 10 dollar increments from one another, so price doesnt matter. I have about 200 to spend on the cam. I wanna make the most power, and i dont really wanna use a B or E, but if you guys can convince me that the B or E is better than the TFS cams, than I will for sure go for one, but i need to know cuz im gonna order my cam from a speed shop that i know tommorow, so please... Offer me your knowledge. I cant afford heads, so i cant change them either, but im def gonna do the cam
THANKS~!~!~!~!!!!!!!!
Paul Perreca

BTW my car is Speed density, and I will be converting along w/ the engine process, over to Mass Air.

im gonna have the exact same setup as you once i get my rings from summit. im going with the tfs stage 1 with 1.7 rockers. i dont know anyone that has that cam so thats kind of why i bought it. plus i hear its a pretty decent cam for a mostly stock motor

honestly on that setup the stock cam would be the best choice. dont underestimate the power of the stock cam

The only reason i dont wanna do the stock cam is because i plan on performance mods down the road, when money makes its way into and out of my pocket. Thanks for the responses though, i need to know by tommorow !

From your signature, having stock heads with no port work then I vote stock cam as well.

EDIT: Just posted right before me. Didn't read it.

How soon on swapping heads are you?

What kind of horsepower do you think that we'll have with these set ups? I havent done much experimenting with horsepower yet, only been in the game for about a year, and thats between long studying hours of electrical engineering college classes.

if i was you i would wait and save my money and do all the performance mods while the motor is out of the car. would save tons of time and makes things a lot easier on you.

If you swap the cam you have to upgrade the valve springs... the stock springs will float like crazy with a bigger cam

I am having my heads ported and polished and a complete valve job done to them, i'll be sure to mention to my machine man that i will be addinga bigger cam, what do you mean by upgrade springs? Just get new ones and theyll be good, or different ones all together? What do you mean by float? THank you very much guys!

I think he means that the stock springs cant handle the lift from the TFS cam or any other after market cam other then stock.

Valve float is when cam lift combined with rpm overcomes valve spring pressures and the valves find themselves not able to close fast enough (basically like dumping waste fuel into the combustion chamber and actually losing top-end power along with dumping raw fuel right out).

Explained well-enough?

When you get into higher lift cams, an appropriate upgrade of higher spring pressures is needed to make the valves close better - essentially helping with valve float.

ive talked to thumper about this already and im going to need .570 lift springs because of the 1.7 rockers. im hoping for a lot more power than my car has now with a stock bottom end with 200k miles on it. im not going to expect a monster but it will definetly be faster than what i have now

me too, but i hav enothing now so walkings faster lol - anyway - thanks for the explanation of valve float, when my machine guy rebuilds the heads, he is going to do a valve job, do you think he'll know what springs to get if I tell him the lift of my new cam I'll have? will the E or B cam cause valve float with new springs that are stock replacement, but are not worn? How about the TFS

yes even stock valve springs will cause valve float...maybe not right away but they will eventually. just upgrade the springs, talk to thumper i think he said he sells them for like 140

It’s not so much that the springs are worn-out, it’s that the springs don't have the right pressure. Call Trickflow or go to their website and ask them which springs they recommend for their cam. The price of the springs, machining and porting, aftermarket heads are not going to look that expensive anymore. I went the machined ported stock heads route and if I could do it over, I would have just gotten some Eddy heads or Trickflows.

Help please, i will be ordering this cam before the end of the day, if i have to i will order it tommorow, but id really like some more input. Doesn't anybody have the trick flow stage cams? I would love to see.

What kind of changes should i expect with the cam swap? Keep in mind my entire motor is bran new, so will my power difference be noticable? I ran a 15.3 at atco with my 113k mile motor, it was tired, and **** was just going arye with it lol Now it finally gave out, and my fresh motor with a new cam and cobra intake with freshly worked heads - what kind of times do you think i'll be able to run w/ that? I hope under 14.0 because i wanna beat them stupid SRT 4's -

208k miles actually. runs good, has a little tick, burns about a quart every 3k miles and doesnt leak a drop.
