So do Coke & Pepsi. They even contract with retailers that they (the retailers) cannot sell the competing brand!! Which leaves us consumers without a choice. I want a choice in the restaurant.

I understand that he did... However, my understanding is that he greased the other palm... I'm sure Ford made sure that it got in the paper as if he paid retail...

Only thing I don't get is...since Ford is the one making these cars, why the eff aren't they the ones to get the money when dealers overcharge? Dealers don't have to do jack-shiite except show people a car that was designed, R&D'd and built by someone else.

Why would they get the extra? The dealer already paid invoice for the car. Did the paperwork to sell it to the customer. Probably had a manager kissing backside during the entire purchase.

The bad part is by charging 100K over sticker, it sucks for the enthusiasts who would have liked to purchase the car at invoice.

How many of these cars are actually going to be driven out of the 3000 produced? My guess is most will be trailer queens and added to collections.

I'm hoping if Ford produces the Shelby Cobra Roadster, after the first year, for those of us wanting to pay sticker can get one for sticker, rather than some inflated price driven by the collector community.

I agree - that part of the story is a shame.... I recall when the last Cobra R came out, similar sentiment being expressed. ***** man, these cars are meant to be driven. When the time comes, they can be restored if needed and will still hold their value just like any well restored classic Hemi-cuda or Yenko Camaro.

Another incredibly ignorant post. By this logic all dealers would cease to be in business, which would put millions of people that work at the dealerships out of work.

How? Well first off, dealers buy cars for less than you pay for them. Then you buy them. That's their profit to do business with. Profit can be small to huge (such as the case will be with the GT). Once the dealer buys the car he can sell it for how ever much he wants.

Look, dumb ass, maybe if you actually read my post you might understand what I said. I said Ford should get the money when dealers OVERCHARGE. I understand that they need to make a profit to stay in business. But trying to charge an extra 100K just because they might be able to take advantage of some sucker??? What did a dealer ever do to deserve that kind of profit?

And anyway, I hope that dealers do cease to be in business, I'd rather deal directly with the manufacturer. Sorry if you work for a dealership (sounds like you do), but I hate them. Not all, but most dealers, have unethical practices, and I don't feel that they deserve a large profit, no matter what the vehicle is.

Is it right that Ford R&Ds, tests, builds, and delivers a car, and then when it is sold, the dealer makes a larger profit than Ford does? No, that is not right. It is ridiculous. So shut the eff up.

Well I'm not going to get into an argument with you over this. No, I don't work at a dealership. But yes my family does own a small Ford dealership. It pisses me off when everyone gets down on the dealers en masse. Not all dealers are crooks. My Father hasn't been in business for almost 30 years by screwing his customers.

My father is getting a GT (so Ford tells him). He is one of 2 dealers in all of the Rochester NY area to get one. He's small, but treats his customers right. What you say is a straight attack on the lively hood of my family and that makes me think you are a dick. Truth of the matter is Ford is F'ING the dealers big time (especially the little guy) and the dealer, to survive, can struggle to make it work or F their customer hard. Lots of dealers are F'ING everyone they can. Which hurts the industry in the long run. You don't sound like your educated enough about what is really going on to even have a valid, inteligent, and thought out opinion.

You need to take your own advice and shut...

Oh yeah and anyone can buy the car from my Father...for current market value when he gets it. God damn I love America and it's free market economy! to you inultus!

EDIT: and if you don't like how the American free market system works, live in another country for awhile and maybe you can appreciate what we actually have here in America.

Man you're slow. I never said jack about not liking free market economy. I simply said that FORD, NOT THE DEALER should get the larger profit.

I still have yet to hear why dealerships should make a larger profit than Ford. Do you have an answer?

Probably you just think they should because you are related to people who have a dealership.

FWIW, my grandfather is a retired Ford District Sales Manager, and my dad worked for dealerships too, so I'm not just blowing smoke here.

Lastly, if your family doesn't screw their customers, then I have no beef with them. I already said that NOT ALL dealerships are unethical. Why are you getting pissed off if your family isn't one of the unethical ones I'm talking about?

I said I realize that they need to make a profit to stay in business. I just hate the ones that are dishonest. If the shoe fits, wear it, if not, then ignore it.

BTW, it is very possible that your father worked very hard to get all his money, but it is also possible that he got the money for his new GT by screwing his customers. I don't know you, so I won't make any assumptions. I'm done with this topic. Have a gnarly one.

First we'll have to agree to disagree.

Second, yes I do have an answer to your question, but you probably won't like it....... Ford not makeing more profit is Ford's poor planning. It's their own fault. They build car (be it a Mustang, F150 or GT or Taurus), they then assign a price to it and make them available to their dealer network. The dealer network is a contracted group of people who sell and service Ford's product's. Dealer buys car for the price set by Ford. Dealer is then free to sell said vehicle for what ever the current market is willing to pay for it. Hence market value. Ford got what they asked for it, dealer gets the rest. That's how the system works. That's why the dealer gets the profits. And rest assured only a handful of dealers getting the profit from this.

Couple of comments here. When the Ford GT was introduced the pricing was said to be around $150,000 to which a lot of ignorant guys were saying that who would pay that much money for just a "Ford" well look what's happening right now, people are actually paying $100,000 over MSRP to buy just a "Ford". So to all those naysayers all I can say go......well I can't say that here but you know what I mean. I knew right from the start that this car is something special, this car reprsents all of Ford proud and glorious racing history, this car is mother of all Fords and it kicks arse. The Corvette and Viper are just mere ox carts compared to the Ford GT. This car rules!!!!!What sucks is that I'll never be able to afford one.

And as far as what the dealers are asking for them? It's like this. The dealers are totaly independent of Ford, before they sell the cars to you and me they have to buy them first from Ford which means it's their car now, not Fords, and they can sell it for what ever they want providing the buyer is willing to pay that asking price.

Originally when ford decided to build the GT, they were planning on building it for the long haul, but due to new legislation, the run of the car had to be reduced to 2 years for new bumper regulations the car would not meet without a major redesign.

If this car was going to be available for 5-10 years, after years 1 and 2, the price would have settled down to sticker eventually.

I can't blame the dealers for marking the car up to make money, as some of the small ford dealers are making more money selling 1 GT then they make selling the rest of their fleet for the entire year. You can't blame the dealers for making a living, however, it stinks for us enthusiasts who are on the cusp of owning one if we could pick one up for sticker price.

I'll just have to wait until the next Cobra R, GR-1 or Shelby Roadster is produced, and roll the dice at that time.

I guess I just took it for granted that they would charge over MSRP for them. I mean what limited edition car has Ford put out. That dealers have not tried to jack up the price. There are dealers around me. That still have a market adjustment value on 03/04 Cobras.

The other problem was quite a few dealers put the rights to the GT up on ebay. And potential owners bid them up into the $135k+ area. And that was for the right to pay MSRP.

when your're worth billions, spending $100 grand extra for the privilege to drive down the street in the a Ford GT first, is like buying one big mac for the price of 2. pretty insignificant to the insanely rich.
