The Problems Continue

Okay so I have posted several times with several problems, none of which have been fixed:

1.) Car starts, runs fine in park, shift into Drive or Reverse, car will die OVER and OVER!

2.) Large amounts of heat coming from center console and up through the emergency brake.

Okay so before I was getting error codes for the thermactor air control system banks 1 and 2. Now the problems progress.

Yesterday I was at the store and I went to start my car and bam nothing. I was kinda upset at first because I just got over a battery/electrical problem. I figured out however that the problem wasn't electrical because I had plenty of power for the A/C, Radio, Lights, Keyless etc... I popped the hood didn't see anything obvious went to start it again and it started.

So I decided to drive to work, cruising about 25-30 mph at what I think was about 1300 RPM so I am accelerating and the car feels like its in neutral the RPM's rev up to about 3k while the speedometer is decreasing and then all of a sudden it hits gear again and back to 1300 it did this at least three times. I got to work and turned it off, started it again and it hasn't done this again since last night.

This morning I put it on the OBD I reader and in addition to the thermactor air control system codes I also pulled code 412 which is Unable to control RPM during high RPM self-test.

The transmission is of course an AODE and has about 16k on it, which is about 4k past its warranty. Tranny fluid is fine. While driving I sometimes hear a soft clicking noise from the passengers side of the engine compartment. Any ideas? I have a feeling this is just going to keep going downhill.... :(

John, the heat concerns me. Do you have an aftermarket trans cooler? If so, how about a trans temp gauge? If you see heat like I bet you do, it is necessary! It might help with the trans slipping for now.

I would go with a B&M Supercooler. If not, another flavor of stacked plate cooler would be the way to go (I am not a fan of fin/tube coolers).

The code is for not being able to control the idle during the engine running (KOER) test. Even a cleaning of the IAC might help. Here is a link which has some info for doing so. You probably dont need to do each step, but cleaning the IAC and checking the TPS are good ideas, at a min.

This reply is not great, but better than nothing. :)
Good luck.

I don't think there is any trans cooler on there, its not on the part list for the new tranny (I didn't own the car then) and I haven't added one. Its weird, its not really a lot of heat but it is heat and it can get quite warm most noticably at night time. I did recently do the intake swap and I read somewhere that the computer may have an issue with that or something.

I'll go ahead and clean the IAC and check the TPS but I honestly think the problem may run deeper than that. Thanks for the reply though, gives me somewhere to start.

So the car won't idle in drive or reverse at all? Try using the TB stop and upping the idle rpm speed. That should get the car to idle and then you can drive it and do some more troubleshooting.

Start with the very simple stuff. Check plugs/wires/cap/rotor, ect, clean and check MAF & IAT, check base and zero vacuum fuel pressure, also check vacuum.

Keep opening the TB stop screw until the car will idle in drive/park. Then you can go from there.
