The splashguard behind the flywheel

How friggen important is it? I got the motor all bolted in and ready to go when I tripped over it. Do I need to take the engine back out or can I just cut out the bottom part and bolt that single peice in?

You may have some problems getting the clutch to adjust properly, and possibly some starter engagement problems as well.

maybe, I cut it anyhow. The only piece I cut off was the top part that's between the block and bellhousing. I left the part between the starter intact.

I would put it in correctly
