Ok, not really, but the spirit is there. Last week Bill Ford Jr. was speaking at Princeton, and a Mustang fan asked him if the EcoBoost would be coming to the mustang. He didn't give any details, but said it would. I think either four or the six would be awesome, though the new Stang seems a bit too big for the four. It worked with the old SVO, because it was so much smaller.

It would be cool to release some special trim package with the EcoBoost Mustang, perhaps an homage to the original SVO. What do you think?

Welcom to Stangnet!

That probably won't happen until the next body style comes out in 2014. Hopefully the next Mustang will be much smaller, Fox body sized I'm hoping for, but that's just me. Personally I'd rather own a GT, but if I was road racing or auto crossing a lot, I'd be interested.

I hope it doesn't get as small as a Fox, maybe a bit smaller then the current and keep it around 3,500 - 3,600lb weight. As for the Eco four it totally escaped me. I never even considered it but, the 258HP Ecoboost from the Focus ST would be nice addition to the line up.

Going from an '01 to a '10 for a little while felt like driving a tank. I parked next to a Ford Flex and just eyeballing it, they looked to be the exact same length, or close enough. Way too big IMO. You gotta remember, these puppies up to 35 mpg by, what, 2020? Chopping size and weight would be a big help. Just my humble opinion. Who cares about people riding in the backseat anyway?

The mpg requirements in the future are fleet avgs, not required for every vehicle. Any sport/muscle car and trucks are going to be on the low end for mpg.

The CAFE requirements are a little more confusing than just 35.5 mpg average across the fleet. They don't use the same EPA numbers on the door, they use a higher number. Not sure where it comes from though. The requirement is also based on the footprint of the car, track x wheelbase. It is a stupid system though, I am not sure how it applies to companies like Ferrari or Mercedes. Porsche may be saved because VW took them over so they get to average in with all of their cars.

I hear ya. I just my 07 back after driving an Edge for 2 weeks and surprisingly the Stang feels heavy compared to the Edge. It felt like the Edge actually stopped better and I have the GT500 Brembo fronts on my 07 GT.

I don't think my '11 feels heavy, but then again I traded in a Dodge Ram for it.

lol, I'm not saying get rid of the back seat. Just make a little less practical than it already is. And why do we have all this trunk space?

As for the 35 mpg, I thought it was per vehicle not the entire fleet my mistake. Regardless, eventually that 35 mpg will move up to 45, 50 and beyond. And you never know when the government might mandate it per vehicle, either. The Mustang has got to get smaller and lighter if we want to keep a V8 in it. But that's just my opinion.

A smaller body would be cool for the next generation, though there is a certain appeal to the Massive American Muscle Car, especially when it can outperform an M3 like the new Boss 302.

I'd be okay with it either way, I think. If they stayed with a big body style, they could offer the EcoBoost V6, and if they went with something smaller, the 4 would could be a true throwback to the SVO.

I haven't heard any plans for a smaller body style, but I've been out of the Stang loop for a while.

The Mustang, if it is going to keep the V8 must get down to like 3200 and I think 30 mpg is possible out of a small enough car. I would love to see a smaller mustang like the SVO. Imagine a Mustang that makes 275hp out of a 4 cylinder and gets 35+ mpg! I would opt for one if the price was right.

That article makes the new Mustang sound expensive. I hope they do make it out of the Australian Falcon chassis so it will cut some production costs and keep it in the price range it is now.

if they shucked evern 200lbs off the current one and put a 285 hp 3 banger in it to replace the base model V6 i'd be stoked.
